I'm annoyed so I'm saying goodbye

People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do.

- Isaac Asimov -

Like everyone I'm susceptible to most of the human emotions and in the last few days annoyance was one of them; I'm actually so annoyed that I've decided to say goodbye and I'll be better for it.

I trade on the exchanges and have done well from it; I'm not the world's most savvy crypto investor/trader so don't always get it right but losses have been relatively small and the gains have made up for them tenfold (A hundredfold to be honest.) I've managed to be in the right place at the right time and I avoid chasing massive gains in preference to multiple smaller ones so managed to build a solid portfolio. So what's got me so annoyed that I'll say goodbye? Well, I wasn't in the right place at the right time recently.

I have a power up (stake) ethos and rarely exit funds from the Hive blockchain; 9th December 2024 is the most recent - 73 Hive - and April 2023 was the time before that. I power up because it increases my vote and earns me greater curation but when I do exit funds it's to trade on exchanges and on a few occasions I've sent a few thousand Hive to people from the blockchain who needed the help - I don't exit the funds to turn into fiat as the price is too low.

Anyway, I'm annoyed because the Hive price went to 0.40+USD and I had almost no liquid Hive to send into the exchanges for trading. The 73 Hive went though and I sold at 0.41 with buy-backs set from 0.20 and below so I'll double it then power back up.

Saying goodbye

I don't want to miss that boat again so I decided to say goodbye to some of my staked Hive - for a little while anyway - and started a full power down which I'll stop after the first week. This way I'll have 20,000+ Hive liquid for trading purposes. My hope is the price holds at about 0.40 (or more) until I have the liquid Hive and I'll double my 20,000. I'll power that up of course, but retain the original 20,000 in liquid Hive to take advantage once again.

I'm annoyed I left myself short and it's cost me big time because I'll (probably) not get the chance to double-up that 20,000 on this occasion but there's always often a silver lining in one's fuckassery and for me it's been the opportunity to learn something.

When I started on the blockchain I started with zero funds and back then there weren't curation initiatives so my posts earned cents, if that, but I kept plugging away and have never exited funds to turn into fiat, only to trade, build and put back in, which is why my little stake looks like it does today.

I know so many of you exit all (or most) of your funds week by week (day by day for some of you) and I think it's fucken dumb. Read this post by my mate @revisesociology to see why for yourself. But even if you don't I wonder, do you ever feel you're missing out on the opportunity to increase your holdings because you exit your earnings and use them rather than play a longer game? (hint: you are missing the opportunity if you do that) Where do you think your holdings could be if you had a better strategy? Do you think you'll ever build for the future instead of living hand to mouth with Hive...I mean, it could all stop quite abruptly and you'd have nothing right? Feel free to comment if you like.

I just moved heavily on an undervalued splinterlands card. Bought every one listed. Pays to have dry powder so can you can take advantage of opportunities.

Traditionally I've been a terrible crypto trader so now I don't even bother. I'll just stake HIVE forever and hopefully it helps me in retirement. I stake all my HIVE and bank all my HBD.

I truly think diversification is the only way forward, so you kind of needs crypto, stocks, bonds, real estate, side-income, etc etc - because you truly do not know what the future holds. Good luck though! Hope it all goes well for you.

My crypto holdings are the smallest part of my financial security plans and, as you say, diversity is the key to it working out. Seven streams is the preferred number. To be honest, I'm not actually counting crypto as I know I'll lose a lot of it to tax, you know what the ATO is like, and anything that ends up in my pocket will be a bonus.

Seven streams? I've honestly never heard that before... but it honestly sounds about right.

Seven streams is when you forget to pull down your zipper.

You have so many amazing skills... but Dad Jokes has got to be in your Top 5 for sure.

That is.... pretty amazing.

I think it's all about diversification. It's all good to have a million dollars in superannuation on retirement but not so good to put it all in one place I guess.

Three and change was the ath wasn't it? A few years back I think, but there are those that say this bull isn't stopping for awhile, so I would think you are positioning yourself for a great move. All this I say in a very speculative way as my knowledge, research and timing make me a very poor trader lol....content to just watch it grow, and to learn from each cycle.

Yeah, I think it'll run on a bit so I'll ended up getting the result I want and more quite probably. Right now I want it to stay up for six days until I sell what I power down and then drop immediately by half so I can double it. That'll move me on from annoyance.

It's all a bit of a game for me to be honest, if anything tangible comes of it then good, if not then fair enough.

That seems to be the healthiest way to look at it. Kick that annoyance right in the ass. I am a little annoyed myself, for not taking a bit off my other cryptos and buying Hive with it, but ...hindsight is my strong suit lol

Haha, yeah hindsight...so many of us are experts at that!

I think we can probably work out a racket here, I've discovered that there is a direct correlation between me powering down and selling some HIVE and the crypto markets, usually there's a month's lag and then HIVE and crypto more generally just goes gangbusters for a while. Admittedly, n=2 but. . .

Aside from those occasions I usually just split the difference, keep the HP powered up and cash out the HBD. That way if my account get hijacked or HIVE implodes I can still have something to show for it and if not there's something for the long run too.

We need to get our heads together and game it I think, we could make millions thousands hundreds a few cents and retire rich!

I've got no Hive in reserve, just what's in my account so if it goes belly up I'm fucked but that's ok, I'll deal with it if it happens. I'm not in a position to take any out at the moment, my tax would skyrocket and I'm paying enough as it is. So, it stays where it is and if it's there to use down the track then that'll be a bonus.

Exactly! I already retired from trading after doing just that. The few cents, not the rich part.

Ah, gotcha. Most of what I pull out goes toward photography related stuff, so expenses zero out much of it when it comes to taxes. When I powered down some earlier this year it was to pay for a photojournalism workshop, that alone was enough for me to feel like I've already come out ahead with HIVE no matter what happens in the future.

Sorry to be late, well if you feel a angry for it, I understand you,
I have been staying here for around 7 years, and only see how the prices and my account grow fast and in a blink it was desapears completely, and I am only seeing how all my account returning to the dust.
If you review my numbers, I never spend any hive for living fortunately only for diversified my portfolio in crypto and my conclusion is, diversified is not good idea, because when market crash, all your eggs could broken.
I want to be a whale and for this reason in my opinion Is important to have a little amount of the hive liquid.
For take advance of the little changes in the prices, maybe you can earn a little of coins to grow fast or maybe not, but for this reason we will try, the problem with people here is when all money which them receives are uses for living, or spend without consider the rest, for example the DHO.

Best regards.

Yeah, doing some trading to increase your holdings is smart and will help you grow your portfolio faster over time. Well done and I wish you all the best with it moving forward.

Thanks Sr, it is very hard, because when you have liquid hive, you think ahhh my God, this could be staying in HP but as you said, it is necessary a little sacrifice in short time in benefits of the long times.

Playing the long game is important.

2029 is our year, 2025 is only a little step, to the Valhalla.
We loses the 2031 but 2025 not, we hope and the consolidation. We will wait for 2029.

Not too far away!

How long do you have to wait for power down, for your HP to go to Hive?
I hope the value stays at the level you want when it's ready....

At any time, you can bring Hive back to HP in an instant.
For this amount, it would be a historic HP boost 😀

I'm not thinking about Power down. I have to admit, you are one of the two who encouraged me to think like that.
I don't know if I will do like you in five or so years, time will tell.

It's a 7 day wait.

That's not a lot of days.

I haven't researched because I'm not interested in it at the moment, but something stuck in my memory for 13 weeks. Who knows where I saw and read that...

Although 7 days is a lot, when there is +-20% daily in the crypto world and when Hive has a 15 cent drop in three hours.

I hope you catch a good price 🤞

It takes 13 weeks for a full power down but each of the 13 stages happen weekly. I'm only doing one week for some Hive to trade with then stopping the power down.

Thank you very much for the clarification 👍

This means that your Goodbye from the title is not really Goodbye, but only 1/13 🙂

Lol, nah not a goodbye at all.

The other day, I was talking to someone here about the same thing. I didn’t take any profits during this rise, but everything I built below 0.2 and above in these months has increased my voting power, so I could help more accounts and project now.

More opportunities will come, and after so much time building, your decision was definitely not wrong. I’m sure it will double, and your account will grow.

Personally, part of the HBD I have will go to buying Hive during the first month of 2025. The difficult part for me is not locking it up 😅; I’m used to doing power-ups usually

Powering up is good, as I've said many times, as it will grow your account much faster. Because I've powered up for eight years I have the ability to take some out, double it (if I manage to capture a decent sell/buy price) and put it back. If my 20,000 doubles it'll take me to over 300,000hp when I power it back up.

That has happened to me so many times in the past. I have all my HIVE locked up and I miss out on some of the pumps. Probably about six to eight months ago I started stacking some liquid HIVE so that when the price jumps over $1 (if it does), I can easily move it into HBD and not have to worry about powering down. It kills me to see the HIVE sitting there not earning anything, but it helps to know I am ready when I need to make a move!

I prefer to have it earning for me but it means I possibly miss out on some gains now and then. I think I need to keep some liquid though so that I can respond more rapidly.

Yeah, I totally understand!

I think there will be many more opportunities, don't be upset. When I joined Hive the coin was worth something like 0.55 and I wasn't planning on starting the withdrawal and then reinvesting until then, so for now I'm just waiting. And the rises are probably going to happen until March. You will be able to multiply all ... I have the same hope. Fiat money at this point would be pointless.

I have also helped with HBD to people who needed it for health, I felt good about it.

Yeah, not upset, annoyed I'd the right word. I go pretty well with it though, so I'm not too worried.

Neither do I... we just have to be vigilant and act appropriately... we will!

I don't want to miss that boat again so I decided to say goodbye to some of my staked Hive

Same here. I am not a trader but I would like to have more HBD. So I will power down for 1 or 2 weeks and hope that at that time price will still be nice.

Who knows where the price will go, but let's hope it holds for a week.

I have never thought of powering down my Hive, since I am still building my way and relatively new here. And at least not at these levels. Hive was at much higher levels previously.

Fair call, but trading it to increase its amount seems like a good plan; it's worked very well for me.

Yeah that's the beauty of Hive. There are so many ways to manage the assets, and it's up to each of us to decide for ourselves which way works best.

Yeah, I like to build mine.

Good luck, Hope you manage to get good gains on the trading!

Probably will, time will tell.

Oh man I rekt myself as I play on exchanges to. Hive went up a bit I sold and it kept going up 😞

I ended up just buying again losing and bringing a few hundred across to power up and buy Hive Engine tokens

I've never lost on Hive, just a couple of other coins I thought would move but didn't; years ago now though, distant memories.

The problem is that many use Hive as their only source of income, and although it is a decentralized platform, it should have certain rules so that its users are forced to power Up.

I really don't know much yet on the subject of repurchases when the price goes down, and resales when it goes up, savings and everything else...I mean technically within Hive itself but I will learn...in fact already some friends are helping me.....

For the rest, I have already said it: Hive is the future.

I was already surprised that you said goodbye to Hive, your second land of life...😅

I wonder what they did before Hive? I also wonder what they will do if it falls in a heap. Die I suppose.

I guess they will be back hunting for another "Hive"

I can't vouch for how life is in other countries - worse than mine perhaps - but those people will return to the same state of anxiety they suffered before learning to earn a HBD....

I also won't judge someone who is alone taking care of an elderly person and has no other way to earn a few bucks if they don't write for Hive....life is quite complex for some who only urge to survive today, because the future doesn't exist.
Poverty is like that, and it forces to live without hope...only the strongest can recover....

About 25 years ago I would have done the same as them...😔.

I sold all my Hive to buy Bitcoin and HBD 2 years ago…. I think now it was a mistake.

Yeah, it may have been although I guess it worked at the time for you.

Yeah. I bought a few Meme coins too and the returns don’t make any sense at all . Especially Compared to the True Value of Hive.

Look at Pepe.

I hate those meme (shit) coins, total waste of time in my opinion, I stick to the main ones. I prefer dollars not cents.

Yeah. I prefer Bitcoin

Me too, got some very early. 😉

Well, in every business (which I believe that for the most part, Hive is a business) making gain is optimal. So, you are not wrong with your decision

I don't have enough to think of powering down. I'm trying to build up bit by bit

Did you read my post? I'm powering down to trade and put it back in. Try reading posts before commenting.

Where do you think your holdings could be if you had a better strategy? Do you think you'll ever build for the future instead of living hand to mouth with Hive

Don’t worry. I have no liquid hive myself. I am positive we will get many more chances

Yeah, I reckon we'll get some more and it'll go way higher. Too bad for anyone who doesn't have any at all though huh?

hey, when you sell it at 50 cents or higher you can take the credit :)

Haha, yeah indeed...missing it this time will seem like a masterstroke on my part. All part of the plan hey?
