Some Americans are Currently Earning MORE on Unemployment than They Did Working

in Finally Friday5 years ago

Hi Hive Fam!

Catch this clip from last week's Finally Friday show with @cryptofinally as we chat about an interesting aspect to the current unemployment situation in the United States.

When someone files for unemployment in the United States - they usually get around 60% of their regular salary to tie them over while they are looking for new work. Part of the stimulus package that was approved was to give those on unemployment and additional $600 a week on top of that.

For many Americans - that means they are actually earning MORE money on unemployment than they did actually working!

Heres the math:

Let's say someone was making gross $1,000 a week working full time. They would now get about $600 a week from unemployment, PLUS another $600 - which nets them a gross amount of $1200 per week now.

I'm not saying this is the worst thing... huge corporations are still the ones getting the lions share of the stimulus...but I think it just shows the complete and utter inefficiency of government. On what planet does it make sense to give people a RAISE for not working.

I'd love to hear your thoughts below though!

Head on over to Twitter to watch the clip since there isn't a way to post short videos here on Hive yet!
