He yelled in disgust, 'Never call me again' and this time, chills ran through her spine because she never imagined he would switch at least not this way.
She just got pregnant and had happily announced the news to him expecting him to cheer up and kiss her like he used to. 'What's wrong' she inquired but this time wearing a baffled smile.
Kevin collapsed on the couch. Though he didn't want to do this but it felt reasonable and necessary. 'I can't have a baby now' he squeaked, 'I'm broke and God won't forgive me if I bring an innocent child into this world when I don't have anything to give'.
Right now she wasn't shuddering because he wanted her to abort the pregnancy but because in his eyes, she sees the same man who wrecked her mother's life. The same man her mother told her about; the bastard who impregnated her mother and left her eighteen years ago to suffer with a pregnancy that brought her to this wicked world.
She stares into his eyes with regrets. 'You said you were different' Miriam yelled wrapping her hands around her chest. 'You promised never to leave' she sobbed. Within her is betrayal sprouting like a toxic habit yet all that runs through her thoughts is to murder this bastard, to watch Kevin die in his pool of blood.
Kevin finds his feet again. He had said those words to get down with her and though he actually loves her but not enough to be the mother of his kids because to him, she's chubby and his dream wife is supposed to be slim and tall with killer shape unlike Miriam who is chubby and heavy on the chest.
They say life is what we make it yet sometimes life becomes what makes us because its challenges hit so hard that we barely see it coming. 'Did you brainwash me into bed' Miriam groaned, 'After everything I did for you' she continues.
She had spent her entire savings on him providing food and paying their rent. Though she met him three months ago but had done so much for him like they were already married. 'Mimi' Kevin moans, 'I'm sorry' he stutters with his both hands clasped together like he wanted to pray.
This moment doesn't sit well with Miriam's spirit and if she was to say another word, that would be that she still loves him but what's love without worthiness and care. Why would she still love a man that reminds her of her father.
She strode towards the kitchen crying then whispers 'Heaven is what we get when we pass through hell'. Those were the exact words of her mother before she died according to the nurse who took care of her.
'She asked me to tell you to be strong and never allow yourself be used like she was' nurse Theresa will always quote. Now the fears of her mother had resuscitated, 'I've failed you mum' Miriam sobbed.
But her heart is made up. This time the story will have to change and she wouldn't bare to bring herself to this humiliation and betrayal without standing up for something. Miriam picked the kitchen knife premeditating what she's about to do.
At this time Kevin had walked outside to answer his phone. Trust me, he's actually brainwashing another lady he just met few days ago with same intent, to lay with her as usual. He doesn't know Miriam is standing behind him and hearing his conversation on phone triggered her pains and frustration though her hands can barely hold the knife firmly as it struggled with fear.
Life is history, a wise man once said; history is all about what happened and what happened to what happened. What happened being the challenge while what happened to what happens being our response.
She stabbed Kevin from behind. Deep enough to end his life and the trauma she had gone through when he asked her to abort the pregnancy and never come back to his house disappeared because now, all she feels is redemption.
Redemption for her mother's soul, redemption for her unborn daughter and in it, bled revenge and an end of the circle. The circle of men giving love in order to get sex while the women gave sex to get love.
She left Kevin for death and at that moment she plods through the door, 'I'm a murderer' her thoughts bellowed and within her she knew she won't be able to bare that cross and guilt. Miriam paused for a moment knowing the shadow of death had clouded her, she tilted her face to stare at Kevin's lifeless body.
'This is a circle' her thoughts lingers. 'Your unborn child may suffer same fate' it continued although her life is meaningless right now because of the pregnancy which has wrecked her whole dreams and aspirations but how about your daughter's dream? Her thoughts counters.
She feared for her daughter's life and future. The pregnancy is just a month old yet it felt like she already knew her baby is a girl destined for same fate like she and her mother. So she clutch the knife lying next to Kevin then stabbed her stomach with words that couldn't come through her mouth 'There's no hope for the hopeless'.
She died without a soul. Within a moment, a vibrant young innocent girl had transformed into a monster, she had murdered three including herself and that wasn't redemption because redemption is finding hope exactly where you lost it; not giving up when life sets you up to give up.
