We have all kinds of taxes that affect us, we have our income tax, our property tax and our gas tax just to name a few.
I was working on my late mom's income taxes. She died on July 3rd, 2023. I had to write to my mom's Office of Personal Management to get her last 1099-R. My mom got survival benefits from my dad's retirement. My dad passed away on January 10, 2009. My dad worked for the US Postal Service.
I did put some money away to pay for my mom's taxes, as I am her son that did her taxes, after my dad passed away. I like to use the Turbo Tax software. It seems I have done taxes with Turbo Tax ever since I got myself a more modern computer, that was back in 1997.
After punching in all the numbers from my mom's 1099-R, I find that my mom doesn't have to pay taxes. Well she only lived a little more than half of the year of 2023. She made a little more than 12 thousand dollars in that time. I guess12 thousand dollars is like extreme poverty for some, so I find that my mom owes no taxes.
Well, my mom passed away, it seems that they should give her some kind of break.
Let's talk of property tax. I just wrote a check to my county tax office for $1689.12, that was my second payment that would be due soon. My first payment I paid in October 22, 2023 for the same amount of $1689.12.
I had the right to pay my property tax in one payment of $3,378.24, but in October of 2023, I did not have that much put away to pay it off in one check, so I paid in 2 checks about 4 months apart from each other.
To pay my property taxes and insurance I put away $425 a month, just to pay my property taxes and insurance. Well, at least I have it to pay.
What about gas tax?
Gas tax where I live is Federal 18.4 cent a gallon and for State it is 51.1 cent a gallon and yes you have to combine both Federal and State gas taxes. So that is a total of 69.5 cents per gallon of gas at the pump.
The last time I bought gas it was $4.699 per gallon for premium gas. Well, my 2001 Lexus GS 300, with its naturally asperated straight 6 cylinder 2JZ-GE engine does need it's premium gas. So $.69.5 is included when paying my $4.699 a gallon where 14.7 percent of that amount is gas tax.
So many taxes. I just hope the tax man is a good steward with that money.
Let's end with a scripture, as it is written, And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him. Matthew 9:9.

It's tax time in the Netherlands as well.
Income, province, house owner and renter pay both for the same house, water, garbage, dog ...all at the same time February/match.
Gas and Electricity taxes come with the 'electricity' bill monthly and next at the end of (your) year extra over tax already paid (depends on the date of the contract).
All the best to you
