Well, where I live the Red Box is a machine that will let you rent DVD's. I guess you have to pay with a credit card since I never seen people put cash in the machine.
The thing is, that I notice the Red Box machine is missing. The location is an outside wall of Winco, that I go to, to buy groceries, where this machine used to be. Then I heard they went bankrupt. In a video made by an employee the Red Box people took their 401 money and used it. Of course that is illegal, but when a company goes bankrupt they might do a lot of things that are illegal.
So what happened? I am guessing that DVD's are going the way of the cassette tape and VHS and 8 track. People still use them, but not enough people use them to still make it profitable.
Well, I remember there used to be a line of people, especially on a Friday night. Like the family has Friday night movies in the living room. Sounds like fun.
I even asked my sister if she has a DVD player, she tells me she does but it is hard to hook it up to the big TV so it stays disconnected. I told her I can give her one of my old school TVs that I can hook up her DVD player, but she said, No.
So did I ever use the Red Box? No, I never did. It was a good idea, since the big VHS and DVD rental places went bankrupt, like the Hollywood Videos and Blockbuster Videos, so the Red Box took their place, but even them has gone down to the streaming of movies.
Do I pay to stream movies? No. I guess I am too cheap that way. Plus if I really want to see a movie, I can see a free movie off of Youtube, with ads that is, but if you have the Brave Browser, you don't have to worry about advertisements.
But you might ask, Well David, how do you get your DVD's. Well I go to Goodwill Thrift Store, near me. They are selling their VHS and DVD's for only 25 cents each. Well, back in the day, you couldn't even rent a DVD for that price. It is just that at the moment there are not that many DVD's for sale as they seem to move fast.
So I don't know if they people stopped renting DVD's, but maybe they did. Sometimes as I enter my Winco store I don't see the people waiting at the machine like I used to. Maybe all those people are paying to stream movies right into their home.
Well, I guess it is good bye to the Red Box, I even heard that the employees are laid off, without getting their last check. That is not good.
Let's end with a scripture, as it is written, A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; Ecclesiastes 3:3.
