Healing Through Chaos Series: Destroy the Box!

Welcome to the Healing Through Chaos Series, where we delve into different media archetypes that pave the way to cathartic chaos.

So what IS the box? The box is a label.

“Oh, Walter would never do something like that. He’s too sweet and innocent”

Not really a bad label honestly, but as humans, there are certain desires we have in life that clash with our sense of “goodness”. Desires that are “ok” to pursue, however, we choose to forgo them in order to uphold the image of the label.

Unfortunately, suppressed desires will always seep out in unhealthy ways, and the box is often where you deny yourself that thing you want to explore deep down.

Walter White: Destroy the Box You’ve put Yourself in

In the show Breaking Bad, Walter White started off as a dorky chemistry high school teacher. He was a square. Passive, but safe. The good guy. For those of you familiar with the show, Walter “broke bad” when he discovered that he was dying from cancer, and as a result, he pursued a life as a drug dealer to generate income for his family before he bid farewell from life.

This could be seen as the natural turning point for when he broke bad, BUT the TRUE match to the flame started at the car wash (his part time job) where he was confronted by one of his students.

Here’s Walt, cleaning the car of one of his obnoxious students who never respected Walt in his “dominant” domain which was him teaching in the classroom. Now, at this scene, Walt is exposed to this student at his weakest, servicing his student’s car.

It was at this point where Walter had to face the consequences of remaining in his box. The consequences of restricting his potential by upholding his "safe" persona. Deep down, as many of us know about ourselves, Walt knew he was more, but it took him to "break bad" to discover it.

Walter’s story is one of breaking down the box (the geeky exterior, the passive bystander) and stepping into YOUR domain. It was the destruction of the label that freed Walt. Destroying his whole identity and adopting a new one, Heisenberg.

Look at your life. When has being a square or being too passive restricted you from embracing a desire? Is it worth upholding the label society has placed on you at the expense of your own prosperity?

Hello @eight.society! This is @traciyork from the @ocd (Original Content Decentralized) curation team. We noticed you shared your first post here on Hive - congratulations and welcome! It would also be awesome if you could do an introduction post, so our community can get to know you better. For an example of what an intro post is like, you can check out this one by my friend & curation team member -

You didn't mention how you happened to find our blockchain home - did an established Hive member tell you about it? If so, you should tag them so they know you're part of the Hive community now!

Also, as Hive can sometimes be quite confusing, the newly launched Newbies Guide should be helpful to you, as it is a growing repository of useful and easy to understand posts about how the Hive ecosystem works.

Please be aware that Hive is a bit different from other social media platforms since you are monetizing your blog, so it is important not to include content that you don't own without sources (and it shouldn't exceed 50% of the post). Since you're new, you may run into an RC (Resource Credits) error when trying to comment/post because you don't yet have enough Hive in your account yet. For assistance with a temporary delegation to get you started, be sure to check out the Gift Giver site.
