Trick or treat!
My name is Ekojah Joshua but you can find me here as @ekojah.
Here is my pre Halloween post with the title, the forest of the ghost.we did recently tour the forest of the ghost.
Have you ever heard the proverb "if you are stubborn, you will see the ghost of Ceaser in philipi"? This proverb is one of the oldest proverbs in My tribe Idoma culture of Benue state of Nigeria. It has been around since the early 1900's, We experienced that yesterday during our tour to the forest of the dead.we were warned by the ghost of different kinds of people that died. They came out in their numbers.one of the ghost told us that, today is a busy day in your community and so it is here so why did you come.He added that no stubborn children shall go unpunished.
There's a few old stories and similar beliefs around ghost beating human being and penalty or consequences of being stubborn . In the book "The Idoma cultural story",
chapter 10 describes how the ghosts were using every last weekend of the month to celebrate their okpoko festival in the forest.
It is true that some dead bodies or ghosts appear physically during their okpoko festival that could cause them to cook food like the living and also beat or slap them. Experiencing this yesterday made me to believe that this may be part of the reason that caused propagation of the myth.
The forest is near a house .
The house was name after the forest with the belief that the ghosts will consider it as their maize and cooking pot is there in the house.
There are different types of ghost in the forest. Both small and great, children and adults . These ghosts have a different voice.
Each ghost speaks with a resounding voice and echoing voice. I Was scared saying within my mind that i
just hope none of them follow us home .At the end of the tour,we arrived home with Joy and learned our lessons never to be stubborn to make a tour during festival.
