The final rays of winter days
Drift soft away to evening
From promised warmth of living spring
The memories fast returning
A blade of grass, a small fist
Wields aloft against the dark
Where young eyes watched the raindrops
Cast the colors cross an arc
A waterfall in pouring rain
A voice steeped deep in wonder
I listened as my restless thoughts fell
Silent in the thunder
But I felt the winds of change declare
The ghost of summer past,
The way ahead goes on and on
The leaves fall thick and fast.
I hear the winter storm ahead
I see the end in sight
I feel the numbered days are going
Soft into the night
Then suddenly the night recedes
As swiftly as it came.
Again I try to close my eyes
They open all the same:
Today I watched my eyes close
To what could be yesterday
Today I hear me say
“Tomorrow, that will be the day.”
Today I find a memory
Today I watch me grow,
I watch the hopes and dreams and I think
Little do I know
The milestones of memory are
Engraved on every season.
When all’s renewed has nothing changed?
A ring no rhyme no reason?
I’d walk a thousand miles
If the memories were not strange
I’d seize the days, take hold the seasons
Never let them change.
Perhaps my hopes have never changed
The times led me astray,
Perhaps the seasons made the man
Put childish things away…
There are so many might have beens,
What ifs I know shall last,
The flowers that bloom on other paths are
Wilting in the past
It’s just a burning memory
The people places names-
Just sunshine on a winter day
The seasons stay the same.
May the seasons shine brightly upon you friends.
