A few months back a man named John was going to a store to do a little grocery shopping. Just as he was getting out of his truck a guy suddenly approached and asked if he could speak to him.
He had a very thick accent and broken English. He claimed he was from Dubai and from the car he was driving (a rental car but not a cheap one) he was probably from Dubai.
He said his son (very young) had lost his wallet and passport and that he had no funds. He has filed a police report and showed the report and then tried to call the Saudi Consulate where he could get a passport and get back home.
The Saudi consulate is in Florida.
He had no American dollars for food or gas and was down to near tears begging for money.
Said he would even give away his ring, which looked like a family heirloom.
So John pondered a bit and asked for his business card. He had a few in his shirt pocket. It did show in Arabic and English his offices were in Dubai and he was in the oil business.
So John gave him what he consider is his emergency fund.
About 1000 us dollars.
And John told him he would take his ring in exchange for the money.
Arab guy seemed very happy and went on his way after thanking him a lot.
Later John took the ring to a jeweler and asked what gold It was rated.
John surprised after learning that it was 24k gold which worth way more than he exchanged the ring for.
So it was the real deal.
But John realized that it really didn't have much value to him as it would arab guy.
So John looked at the business card which arab guy gave him to find the adress of his office in Dubai.
John have a friend who studies Arabic and asked them to translate a saying onto a tag the size of a business card.
Then John wrote the saying on the backside in English.
Tied the card to the ring. Put the ring and card in an envelope. And that envelope in an international envelope and sent the ring back
The saying on the card said:
"You have been Judged.
Humility is to be rewarded"
