"Today is going to be a great day and I can feel it", I said as I hugged my friend.
"Leave me alone, I am tensed for crying out loud", Lousia my friend said as she forced her way out of the hug.
"You're such a killjoy you know right?"
"If expressing how I feel makes me a killjoy then let me be one and when you are at it, you can add being a witch to my portfolio as I'd love that title too". Louisa scoffed.
"Whatever killjoy-cum-witch", I said while forcefully pulling her into another hug.
"Leave me ALONE young woman!", she yelled as she tried to force her way out of the hug but couldn't as I was bent on holding her hostage.
“Not a chance!” I yelled back amidst struggling with Louisa.
“Okay fine I won’t struggle anymore”, Louisa surrendered and took a sharp breath.
Holding her tightly I whispered, “You are one brave bear and I am super proud of you”.
As if that was Louisa's cue to let the floodgate out, Louisa wept and wept to the point where her shoulders were visibly shaking.
“I know it hurts and it feels just like yesterday but Louisa you just have to be strong,”, I said while trying to force back my tears.
“Katty my heart hurts and it might explode anytime”, Louisa said amidst tears.
“No it can’t and won’t”, I replied while trying to swallow the painful lump in my throat that was about to defeat me.
“Katty, all of these means nothing”, she shot back.
“No, they do”, I replied while rubbing her back.
“No, it all means nothing because they aren’t here to witness it. They aren’t here to beam with smiles as I go on stage, they aren’t here to tell me how they are proud of me”. Louisa said whilst weeping bitterly.
“But I aa-m here”, replying with a crooked voice that was accompanied by tears.
“Katty they died, they all died and only me was spared, why? Why couldn’t the universe take me alongside? Why keep me here to mourn the demise of my family alone? Why keep me alive till today just to be lonely and sad, why? Katty why?
“My love I am sorry and for the umpteenth time you are not alone, we are family and we both have a family that is super proud of us and is waiting for us out there. I said while looking her straight in the eyes.
“My love, I am sorry that your family had to leave so soon but one thing I am sure of is that they wouldn’t want to see you cry your eyes out on a special day like this, and guess what? They are smiling and rooting for you from Heaven”. I smiled.
“I love you so so much Katty, thank you, and thank you. I couldn’t wish for a better friend”.
“Save your vote of thanks for another day we have to wear this gown and go get our certificates,” I said as I wiped Louisa’s face.
“Aye, Aye captain”, Louisa replied with a broad smile.
From this image I can see a victorious person, who against all odds made it and saw the light at the end of the tunnel.
I feel this person did so much to get to this level.
