Nick Cannon recently shared some private things regarding his relationship with Mariah Carey during the time they were married. He said that during that time he felt lost and insecure. I don't know exactly what he meant by that but it's obviously not a good thing he's talking about. The insecure part I get because of I put myself in his shoes and imagine myself in my 20s married to one of the biggest stars on the planet, I'll feel very insecure about it.
He said it wasn't really the public’s opinion that bothered him, but his own self doubt in the relationship.
He felt overshadow by Mariah's greatness and he said that there were moments when he would just be lying down awake, thinking and questioning if he was meant to just be Mariah’s man. I believe that's what made him agree to a divorce because he couldn't step out of her shadow, she was too famous and always had the spotlight. If you know Nick you know he's a man that wants to succeed and make a good name for himself so this wasn't working for him at all.
He's also black and this is no offence to the black community but most black men really believe in being the head of the home so with Nick married to to Mariah always on the sidelines, carrying ber bags, while she was seen as "alpha," made him feel vulnerable and less of man. Not everyone can admit to feeling that way but most men in his situation would feel the same.
What made me respect Nick was that instead of resentment, he expressed admiration for Mariah Carey's strength.
