This is my post for #freewriters 2587 prompt a new nightmare hosted by @mariannewest

Some people have a childhood where everything goes their way and some people have a childhood where any day could be a new nightmare.

I believe the childhood I had prepared me for things going wrong in life and now I try to find ways to fix them. I had a great childhood but also a childhood that showed the dark side of being a little girl around many old men. I believe that experiencing things and seeing things that a child should not see, taught me which situations to avoid at a very young age.

Watching and helping my Dad work on things taught me if this does not work, try something different and keep trying until something works. I think this taught me to have a never give up attitude when it comes to life or fixing things, I always think it will work, I just have to find a way to make it work.

My husband had a great childhood, he lived near the river and could go to it anytime he wished. His Mom would drop him off 10 miles from home and let him hunt in the woods with his BB gun all day while she worked, she had one rule, you eat what you shoot.

He had wonderful parents but I am guessing they did not teach him to keep trying when something does not work, if it fails, he is done with it. To him it is now a new nightmare of the things that can not be done. I will never understand this concept.

This is a good example of how he thinks if it does not work the first time it is just a new nightmare and should not be tried again.

He wanted to see if he could make fire with sticks and a string. I handed him a flat piece of driftwood that I had on the porch to use for the base and he refused to use it, he said it would not work.

He gathered several different kinds of wood but could not get any of it to work and got pissed and threw it across the yard. I let him "settle" and said, why don't you try the wood I that tried to give you?

The next day I asked if he would try it again with that piece of wood I wanted him to try. He agreed but still had negative feelings about it working. I forgot to take a picture of the fire but here he is blowing on a coal that he made by rubbing sticks together.

If I had not pushed for him to try one more time, he would still think he could not make fire with sticks.

His giving up on things bugs me, but I guess that is why he has me. Yesterday was our anniversary, we have been married for 38 years.
