My sister called me last night and asked if I wanted to go to a food pantry in Fellsmere. She said they always give plenty of vegetables and meat. She said she had to work but would pick me up on her way home, and then we would go there.
She sent me a text at 6am she said she was leaving work, she works nights. We knew the line was going to be long so we wanted to get there early, it was just breaking daylight when we left my house.
When we arrived, I was shocked to see the amount of cars that were ahead of us. I tried to count the lines and we were in line 7 and I think there were 8 cars in each line. A man came by and gave my sister a paper to fill out and she told him we needed two. He said they no longer let more than one person pick up at a time, we would need to get her things and then we had to get back in line to get mine.
My sister kept saying she needed to pee and I could tell it was getting painful. She asked the man who was handing out the papers to everyone if he knew where the restroom was, he said there was not one there. We could not leave because we were not at the head of the line, we were locked in place by the other cars. She was considering trying to pee on a roll of paper towels that she had in her truck, but we both knew that would not work which made us laugh at the thought, she might have tinkled a little, because she said don't laugh.
Three more lines formed next to us before the line started to move, and it moved very slow, it was now after 9am. We had been there for over two hours.
We got my sister's food and she said we would come back and get mine, I said I digress (not really but that's the prompt). I told her let's forget mine and go home. She was not having it, after she found a restroom we went back to get my things.
When we came back it did not look as if the new line that had been forming when we left, still had not moved. Finally, it started moving and I got my things, but they were out of a lot of things that my sister got. They gave her 5 packages of hamburger meat, a big bag of dog food, and several different kinds of vegetables, there were some other things but that was what I cared about.
When we got home my sister gave me some of her vegetables and hamburger meat.
My husband cut up a couple of bags of apples for me to make apple butter. Rudy will get a bag and we will give away the rest. They gave me 8 bags of apples.
These looked too small to be pink grapefruit but looked like them. I was sure the littlest ones were oranges, but they are all grapefruit, I have never seen a grapefruit this small, they are also tart for being pink. By pink, the fruit itself is pink. I will need to find something to do with them.
