Walking into the future
Isaías, a young man of Latin origin, product of his parents' migration, since he reached adolescence had to work multiple jobs to help with the family expenses. Three years ago he got a job in a prestigious hotel in the city.
It was not easy but he managed to be promoted to bellboy, his kindness, his respectful treatment with customers and his willingness to do any double shift or any work allowed him to perform the job successfully.
The most difficult part of the job was not the schedule or the despot bosses, more complicated was that in many cases the customers were not as polite and kind as they appeared to be. But that day, things were going to change... At the end of his shift, he set out on the road to his future.
As he left through the employee's gate he took the sidewalk to the park, with his toga over his shoulder, daydreaming, knowing that this would be his last walk as a bellhop. He was on his way to his big dream, the university auditorium... Today is his graduation as a university professional. Working and studying is something we Latinos have had ingrained in our souls for many years.
Caminando al futuro
Isaías un joven de origen latino, producto de la migración de sus padres, desde que alcanzó la adolescencia tuvo que hacer múltiples trabajos para ayudar en los gastos de la familia. Desde hace 3 años consiguió trabajar en un prestigioso hotel de la ciudad.
No fue fácil pero logró que lo ascendieran a botones, su amabilidad, su trato respetuoso con los clientes y si su disposición siempre al realizar cualquier doble turno o cualquier trabajo le permitió desempeñar el puesto de manera exitosa.
Lo más difícil del trabajo no era el horario o los jefes déspotas, más complicado fue que en muchos casos los clientes no eran lo educado y amables acorde a la posición económica que aparentaban tener. Pero ese día, las cosas iban a cambiar… Al terminar su turno de trabajo emprendió el camino hacia su futuro.
Al salir por la puerta de los empleados tomó la vereda del parque, con su toga al hombro, soñando despierto, sabiendo que esta sería su última caminata como botones. Se dirigía a su gran sueño, al auditorio de la universidad… Hoy es su graduación como profesional universitario. El trabajar y estudiar es algo que los latinos tenemos arraigados en el alma desde hace muchos años.
