I am one of the Littles on Steem, and we need your help. The recent soft fork (or whatever resulted in all these niggling changes) has resulted in our disappearing a tiny bit more on Steem, and I for one am very unhappy about it.
I have only been through one fork, HF21/22, since arriving. I know HF 20 happened just before I arrived, so I got to deal with the brand new RC system, and was shut out quite regularly. More appropriately, I should say I was shut up.
But still I wrote, I read, I commented and I spread my worthless 100% upvote around. I invested all I could, then diligently worked on the blockchain for more than a year to get my SP up to something that would give other Littles, my peeps, a whopping .02 in their payout fields. I started getting tiny curation rewards.
Then HF21/22 came along with its upvote curve and suddenly my upvote on my fellow Littles' posts went back to being worthless. Our hard earned steem could no longer buy as much for us, and there were fewer opportunities to make any earnings in our communities. We'd been put into virtual ghettos.
So here's my gripe: with the recent soft fork, only upvotes over .02 generate a notification. Previously, I found my new peeps by checking out anyone who upvoted me with 100%. A 100% upvote of little to no steem value alerted me to newbies who might interest me and need a hand up.
Since the recent so called soft fork that changed everything, I get no notification of a small account's support of my work, none. And anyone I give unbridled support to gets no notification of my support of them. We can search through our upvotes, but there are no percentages on that list, making it nearly impossible to know who were the actual humans who saw my work, and who were among the autovotes that gave me a measly .1% upvote.
Once again, the Littles have been further erased from notice on the blockchain .
Way to go making it more difficult for a new account to gain some traction here. And we wonder why so many new accounts that were making great content got up and left.
Open Letter. I would like to draw your attention to excellent content creators who might otherwise escape your notice, and are more likely to drown than to swim on this blockchain you just acquired. We are creatures in your very own sea.
@justinsunsteemit, I hope you read this. I read your recent
freewrite challenge. Today's prompt is "you need help".This is my entry to @mariannewest's daily

The soft fork didn't change anything for the users. That change was just regarding the Steemit-owned accounts and which actions they'd be capable of performing, given they're now a huge threat considering Justin has been using his own stake to vote on the network of Tron.
This'll be a front-end change, which isn't related to the network but merely just the UI deciding what you see and don't see. If you want to really keep an eye on actions performed on the network, use steemworld.org. It's an excellent tool.
Also, it's worth noting that upvote values fluctuate based on market movement. If Steem goes up, your upvote value holds a little more strength, as it goes down, it loses some strength.
Thank you for your response. Of course I have seen my upvote value fluctuate and understand all that. This is about my trying to find the newbies. If they upvote me I can't see that. You suggest I go to another website, which brings me to my second gripe about the fork or whatever it's called: I am suddenly having to perform significantly more keystrokes to do simple tasks. The recent changes has once again harmed the smaller accounts by making them more difficult to find. And even I have been "hidden".
I share your frustration!
And this: smaller accounts are more difficult to find now.
And the hives! the competing communities with their hashtags. Somehow "racial profiling" comes to mind, however inapt the comparison may be. I don't like labels. I like being inclusive, universal. Groups and cliques and identities have their place, I know... we segregate with birds of a feather. Maybe I'm too much of a rebel, a loner. But I bristle at any kind of pigeon-holing. I'm breaking out in hives... resisting change... too set in my ways...
"suddenly having to perform significantly more keystrokes to do simple tasks" - my son tried Steemit and hated the HTML coding and how cumbersome and time consuming he finds it to be, and he aced "informatics" in college (computers, codes, plus a linguistics degree). I don't know what will lure @mvkean back. Thanks for expressing your views with your usual refreshing honesty, @owasco!
It just keeps getting more and more time consuming, and for me the rewards are smaller and smaller. I see folks in OCD getting what would be for me a windfall on a single post that they tossed off. It makes me really mad! I work sometimes for months (my hawk poem) and does it get any attention? Nope. Well, that's not true. It gets lots of attention from actual humans who seem to like my content, but no curators visit, or when they do they give a token upvote, 200 worthless upvotes, and a kiss a death for future rewards.
Your hawk poem is awesome.
You may not get the financial proofs, but you've got my endorsement!
The work work work, the paper trail, the busy busy busy demands. The more "nothing" going on, the busier the worker bees.
I'm in cynic mode, as usual. But ready to be inspired and encouraged.
Not gonna think about how 250 upvotes = two bucks....
Basically, the soft fork didn't change anything. The soft fork stops Justin from performing actions on the network that the community doesn't agree with. That's all.
steemworld has been around for a long time, and before that it was steemd everyone had to use. In all the years I've been here, notifications are something that have never properly worked. At one point Steemit Inc basically just stopped them entirely, until recently both Steemit and steempeak got them properly implemented again. So I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few issues still.
Really though, consider steemworld, it allows so much depth into the statistics, who is voting, how much, earnings upcoming and gone by. It's a very good tool. It's basically a very good block explorer (every crypto has these, they're great for seeing what's happening in real time on the network).
Here's an example of some stats:
How would these help me find the small fellow content creators who have upvoted my post?
I know how to find out stats on anyone I want to. How do I find which of the upvotes on my post are from humans, and which are from bots. I did that before by looking at the percentage of a vote that they gave me. Now there is no way to tell unless they also comment.
There's a segment entirely for account operations (upvotes, downvotes, comments, and more). It shows vote percentage and vote value. They're displayed in real time, so no front-end steempeak or Steemit lag.
For example, you can see that I downvoted a ton of spam earlier, and received an upvote not long ago for a value of 0.03$ at 100% from a user. You can filter it to only see outgoing actions or only incoming ones. Check out the image:
OK that does seem useful thank you.
I have to agree that Steemworld is worth a visit. I keep a tab open on my browser with Steemit and one with them. It's an amazing tool and provides a lot of information. I have used it to find newbies or to see who is randomly downvoting me or for any number of reasons. Seriously, give it a try. I have the guy who created it on a 100% autovote. It's that helpful.
OK then putting myself out there on this post has been of benefit! I will. Thanks so much
Thank You so much for the explanation, very useful news!
But I also see the problem,
Dec., Jan., Begining of Feb. Bites seem to have had more value - for some reason, which I admit I do not know...
After about the first week of Feb., "Boom"! Went from a few bucks earnings a week to change, OK post more I thought...
But the results are still dropping...
This along with the "downvoters" who want to take a piece of that penny away from You...
This is what is discouraging
"New Steemians"
At least this is what I have noticed the last 5 months I have been here...
There is another, but a newbie would not notice - "right away", so I"LL leave that one for now.
Awesome Evening I Wish You!
👍🏼😁👍🏼
I think it's just the price fall. My vote went from 0.05 to 0.04.
No no it's about visibility. The smaller accounts were made less visible in the notifications, which is where I look to see WHO, not what, has upvoted my work. The likes of me, and all of those with sp below mine, have been obscured again. The change has harmed the smaller accounts by disappearing us from notifications.
I find all upvote notifications annoying and disabled it when possible.
Usually, I do an indepth review of my posts after payout to consider people who voted but didn't comment (I continually reply to comments and visit those people). Steemworld is a really great place to check as I can easily get information on whether or not the person voting is for real.
Ok thanks for the tip. Kaelci pointed out that what I really miss is hovering over the heart to see which were humans and which were autovotes. I usually only get 20 or so notifications a day, so they can be major events for me.
Right. I think the best is allowing everyone to decide their own settings about what notifications are important. Steemit and Steempeak had huge updates only a few days ago and probably really appreciate the feedback.
As mentioned, the softfork only changed Justin's abilities as a preventative measure in case he started voting for witnesses to push his own agenda through.
Steempeak's notification system changed recently when Communities were implemented. Which I find highly annoying. I don't WANT to be notified every time someone upvotes my post with 0.02 or more. I only want comments and mentions. Mentions specifically because GinaBOT no longer wants to inform me when I've been mentioned so I'm sure I look like an ignorant cow to everyone. But now I can't find how to remove certain notifications unless I go to the specific notification page and play with checkboxes.
Annoying.
I also liked seeing vote percentages when I hovered over the heart.
Someone else mentioned steemworld. It's a good tool to see a lot things, create new accounts easily, delegate and undelegate, among other things. But when looking specifically for upvotes and percentages, I prefer to use steemnow:
Thank you for the information. The filters are useful, but have you found you have to set those filters every time you look, or am I missing something?
You actually clarify something in what I'm trying to say: I don't care what activates that red blotch (and checking the boxes doesn't seem to affect that), I used to hover over the heart to figure out who the humans were. That's more what I am missing. thank you for that comment
I have not found a way to permanently set the filters. :( It really bugs me.
me too. Plus it's several keystrokes to reset them. Lots more busywork to do simple tasks.
Clever use of the freewrite prompt! So much to digest with all the changes. I like being able to earn a bit from crossposting other's work. Potential to help other littles and yourself there, beyond tiny upvotes.

I don't know what you're talking about. I can cross post others work and earn for both of us?
Yes. Through Steempeak. You can post someone else's work to a new community. On the new post, 90 percent goes to original author, 5 percent to the original community, and 5 percent to the crossposter.
And you can cross post work older than 7 days, so it can earn again.

someone else was trying to explain this to me as well but I didn't understand. I belong to three communities. If I cross post an older post from one of these to another, how does it earn? And the author gets so much?!
The crosspost is a new post with separate votes. I'm pretty sure the 90 percent is a percentage of the author payout, not the entire payout.

Click on the three dots next to the post payout. You'll see a link for crossposting on the pop-up menu.

Hmmmm... I don't think my notifications are being filtered like that. But then again, I'm using eSteem all the time and not Steempeak. 😊
Thanks for that info. I'll head to esteem to check out who are humans who actually read my work.
