I have a problem. I cannot find things that I have hidden against possible burglary in my house. Does anyone else have this problem? The only things you can't find are the things you have carefully hidden?

A few years ago, when I had just moved to my current house, I hid a small leather pouch with $6000 in cash and three ten-ounce silver bars in it, somewhere in the house. I could not find it less than a month later. I had a vague recollection of putting it all under something, and saying to myself “no one is going to look under all these something or other.

Search as I might, just a month or two later, I could not find it. No big deal. I didn’t need it. Maybe it was just waiting for a rainy day to turn up. I half forgot about the dang thing for more than two years.

I love to get rid of stuff, especially now that I live in a house that came to me full of someone else’s stuff. One of the least useful of these things was a tower of three plastic drawers full of belts, that were all too big for me, in the way back of a closet I didn’t use. Folks will pick up almost anything if I put it out to the curb here, so out went the tower of plastic drawers full of belts. I knew someone would take those belts.

Only no one took it. It was out there nearly a week when I thought about carrying it back in so that the garbage collectors did not just toss it into the back of their truck and crush it to smithereens – at least the drawers might come in handy somewhere, someday.

I went out to get it, and it was gone. "Good" I thought, "thank you for saving me the trouble."

About an hour later, I remembered what I had hidden all that cash and silver under.

I just hope the new owner really needed it.

challenge. Today's prompt is a new owner. This is my entry to @mariannewest's daily freewrite

I used e.ggtimer set for five minutes, wrote madly for those five minutes, then proofread without changing content for a few minutes after the timer.

Very funny, but only if it's not true.

Remember your bitcoin story? In my case, I have no chance of recovering any of it.

Oh good god, then I'd check myself into a home for the bewildered:)

They didn't call me Spacey when I was a child for nothing.

Hahah, sounds like you were a bit of a weirdy...like myself.

I guess. Except with me, I tried very hard to fit in. Just couldn't cut it! Now I don't try. Liberating!

OMG, I would be frantic. Maybe they will have an honest heart and it weighs on them so much, they return it.

I am always throwing something away only to need it after it is gone.

Oh this was a good six months ago. That treasure is gone for good.

There are so many things I threw away that I wish I hadn't. Pokemon cards for one. I had an enormous box full of them. I understand they could have made me rich.

I know what you mean, I never had those but I threw out a bunch of Garbage Pale Kids cards, and some of them are worth a lot of money.

OMGoodness ! That would be horrible!

I hope it gets me credit in heaven. Maybe I helped out someone who felt they needed some belts to survive. And maybe they don't even themselves yet know that under all those belts is a treasure.

How long ago was that? Maybe they will find it and bring it back. I know that is only a slim chance, but certainly they will know that no one sits that kind of money out for trash.

Who knows, they could be a flea market person and sell it as is and never know it.

I know. Someday, somewhere, someone will have been very happy. But it's not going to be me. This was last summer.

Interesting

OMG! That will be a huge surprise to whoever finds it..hopefully someone does. I used to have a reoccurring dream about finding gold coins. That dream has never come true--at least in a literal sense.

Hey Eric I forgot to tell you that I used that frequency sound tool you sent me, to write this. Although the story is true, I really do think it helped me. Thanks!

I'm glad to hear it helped! It sure does make a difference for me..I had it on today as I was writing my last post!

Oh, my goodness! Now that is a story that I bet you wish you never had to make. Sorry for your loss, and happy for the one who gained it all.

That's OK. I have other stashes around the house I am bound to find someday.

Ohhhhh no I was hoping for a happy ending. This is excruciating!
And oh man do I ever do that: hide something in a safe place, which becomes hidden from my memory.
Or a clever new password: I'll never forget it! Moonface45 - because Mom's cousin called her Moon Face - and then, of course, it's FORGOTTEN. Oh, yes, I write things down too, but for some reason, Chrome keeps telling me my username and password don't match. When did I change them??? I didn't! Not knowingly! I cannot delegate or access my wallet here, or join E-cency or any of the other new offshoots. It's embarrassing. I'd stop all payments to my posts, if I could access the "keys" or ways to do it.....

That is every bit as big a bummer as mine!

I think you can set a beneficiary of your rewards without keys. Send it to a freewritehouse or something. Is this why you stopped posting?

I was working on this and saved information on How to Recover the password, but didn't get it to work, then forgot all about it again.
For the past month I couldn't access Hive. Then I remembered. This happened before. Tim had to reset something in the router. Now I'm back!
Next, how to decline payment on posts, until I can access that wallet.

Not just Hive, but even my online banking, I'll get notice that my password is wrong - but I swear, I never changed it! Who changes my passwords??? And they don't get saved! I had to spend a lot of time on the phone setting a new password for the banking thing...

Busy weeding these days. I'd update my Agony in the Garden, by the Decade, posts, but it's too agonizing to speak of... things that I planted (invasive, non-native) had taken over, and all I do is dig dig dig, pull pull pull, but not BURN - we are in a burning ban again.

Just as well. I've done some really stupid things, like a cause a pine tree to go up in flame...

You torched a pine tree?!

I love your agony in the garden posts, but I think I've only seen one of them.

Not just Hive, but even my online banking,

When everyone signs up for their CBDCs or whatnot, what could go wrong? I still write paper checks.

You don't need your wallet to burn (or decline or set a beneficiary for) your rewards. Just click on the "advanced" option at the bottom of the draft, then on "rewards distribution" which opens up the window you need:

Gotta get those taxes done today! Since I now have two income-producing properties, this is driving me nuts.

Thanks for the screen shot, and good luck with taxes!
