I am frankly surprised... not by the result of the elections, for me it was more than obvious that Trump would win (although I do not agree with him), but by how shocked many of my neighbors and friends seem to be with respect to this result...
But what the hell did they expect? Did they really believe that after how badly things have been managed from the White House there was any hope of victory by the Democratic Party?
Honestly, my response to their surprise regarding these elections is always, "Imagine how bad the Democratic Party is for Trump to win these elections so easily."
I still have some colleagues who try to find an explanation arguing that all this is because of Social Networks... in the sense that Republicans seem to dominate this area more than Democrats, which is not true at all.
In my opinion, both parties have used social media in a populist and manipulative way...it's just that, perhaps, the Democratic Party tends to fail more with respect to the promises they make.
Surrounding themselves with "good-sounding" words and do-good speeches has not helped them this time...simply because people are not as stupid as they seem to believe they are...
Normally, most "Good Intentions" do not come to fruition.
I remember the typical phrase my father used to say to me when I tried to justify my naive and irresponsible behavior when something went wrong:
"Everything is fine, son, the only thing I want you to keep in mind is that the cemeteries are overflowing with people with "good intentions"...referring to all the people who had died for some "noble" but also stupid cause (LoL).
Most of the time one thing is "the wish" and another very different thing is "the viability" of that wish becoming reality...People like to be told about nice projects, common solutions, the happy world, the end of hunger and widespread solidarity...but when they realize that reality is more complex and that there are many interests in the people who pronounce those nice words, then, the disappointment becomes generalized and what happens is...the opposite reaction.
The truth is that Trump has won "widely" and, unless you think that everyone is an idiot, this is enough remarkable not to be surprised yourself about it and embrace the idea that current politicians are the worst there have been in decades...especially in Europe :-).
For me, Trump's victory was inevitable and rational, everything else, that is, Kamala's victory, was a fantasy.
The only thing I agree with in this post is that I am not surprised of the results. But I am not sure how information makes it outside of the US, but the "Democratic Party fails to deliver on promises" is something I just can't understand. Again, I've been in this country more than 20 years, and I've never seen that. The GOP promises on the other hand, literally none were ever realized. Anyways, I promised myself a long time ago I would never talk politics here. So it's probably my last comment about it. I'm just glad I'm currently outside of the country so I won't hear the same "go back to your country" random people were telling me the day after Trump got elected in 2016.
All true. !INDEED
Democrats constantly underestimating people is putting it mildly.
They are full of themselves and are making the same mistake again and again, like they did with Clinton.
I believe that “powers above” let them loose intentionally to sober them up a bit. It won’t help though.

Reading something that wrong from somebody that doesn't live in the country is almost insulting. In the 20+ years I lived here, I've never seen the democrats underestimating people, even less so this year where they knew they werent the favorites from the get-go. They really tried to understand the problems and even solved many during the 4 previous years, but unfortunately that's not what Americans care about. I'm not a Democrat or a Republican by the way.
Sorry but I see it differently. Simply the fact of exchanging Biden with Harris at the last moment without any democratic procedure behind it shows how much they don't care about common opinion and democratic ways, whatever that is.
Another unpopular opinion - USA is not a democracy. Look at the election system and you have the proof.
Maybe I was a bit jumpy after hearing so many comments describing a situation completely different from I've been seeing for many years, usually from people who never lived here to see it first hand, and I misread what you wrote about underestimating people. I do partly agree with what you're saying now: although technically they followed protocol with Biden getting out early enough, it should have been done from the beginning.
And it's not a unpopular opinion, many people, including myself, think the electoral college is a joke, just a remnant of a system created by slave owners. Without it, neither W nor Trump would have been president, and the entire world would be so much better for it.
Anyways, like I said in another comments, I don't like talking politics, especially on Hive, so I should stop. Running is way more fun. !lolz

I think both sides are a bunch of promises, but I am not surprised with the result. It's a result of their actions as the economy is horrible and they didn't have a clear plan to fix things. Kamala avoided that question way too often and I lost faith in her when she decided to not go to Joe Rogan's podcast.
Yes right. You are only as good as your opponent does let you get.
Democrats have been weak because Biden didn’t build up a successor and was totally mislead about his own condition.
