On paper, she was the perfect professional– a flawless CV, excellent referees, and her air of confidence which captured the attention of everyone in the organization. Her rise was quick, her coworkers respected her and loved her winning smile.
But underneath, she was not as flawless as she made people believe. Certain tasks were not delivered at the right time, failing to meet up with deadlines, unfulfilled promises and concocting excuses.
Her facade crumbled during a major project. She assured the team that everything was under control, but when the day of the presentation arrived, there was nothing to show. Scrambling for excuses, her story fell apart under scrutiny. Her colleagues realized she'd been cutting corners, fabricating results, and relying on others to cover her tracks.
In a matter of weeks, her reputation lay in shreds, she went from being the promising and energetic young woman to becoming a huge disappointment to the organization that employed her. The trust she had built lay in tatters, leaving her isolated in a place where credibility was everything. It wasn’t her lack of skill that cost her, it was her lack of credibility.
