At the back of the shelf, hidden behind dusty books and forgotten objects, a small, old and rusty box rested there. Emmanuelle saw it with intricate carvings in her grandmother’s home while cleaning it, after the elderly lady passed. On the cover of the letters was a wide faded ribbon neatly tied. Each letter was addressed to her grandmother in her grandfather’s neat scrawl. She took the letters from the box and started reading them, unraveling for the first time, a grand love story. A love story filled with dreams and emotions, it also had some affectionate words that her grandfather wrote to her grandmother when he was away on the battlefield.
As Emmanuelle read the last letter, tears were in her eyes, realizing how much her grandmother and grandfather loved each other for many years. She decided to return the letters to the box and after closing the lid, placed it at the very edge of the shelf for its contents to be read and re-read, several years down the line.
