Teaching is of course one of the most rewarding professions. A teacher helps you become better at what you do and eventually become an expert in that area. However, there are a lot of challenges teachers face and I will walk you through the just one and how you can effectively handle it.
Teenage
This is the stage where one hits13 and up to the age of 19. It is a critical age for many parents too as they find it difficult to control their children. Teenagers have a lot to deal with, these includes hormonal changes that leads to many body changes, peer pressure and parental pressure. So first, a teenager mat be dealing with self esteem issues, then trying to fit in with peers and then there is expectation from family. All these are things teenagers face most if the time.
Teaching a teenager effectively
To effectively teach teenagers, ensure you have their attention, most times they zone out and have imaginations. How do you get their attention then? Think of what interests them before you start teaching, start a conversation. This makes them interactive in your teaching also.
Second, listen to them, do not always put off their suggestions because they are sensitive. If they are wrong, find a way to correct them that won't make them feel terrible. You could use words like "I love that suggestion, but I think you can put it in a better perspective by saying......" This way, you will keep them engaged also.
Lastly, make your teaching fun, no one likes boring, even boring people do not like to be bored. So switch things up sometimes, teach in the park, take the class on a field trip, or even do a sports session after class. Teenagers are easy to understand, if you give them your time and attention.
