MEET THE AUTHOR (ASK ME ANYTHING PART II)

in Freewriterslast year (edited)

Hello Everyone,
In this articles I will continue to share another 2 (Two) or more common question and answer portion that usually people ask from the Author.
ASK ME ANYTHING PART II, I am VS Campbell,

Let's Get Started!

Which Character is My Favorite?

This is a really hard question, actually. It's kind of like asking a parent which of their children they love most. Gary is my alter ego and I get to act out through him, doing things I could never actually do. Paige is a super fun character, always teasing and getting into mischief. Suraya, she is special to me; first because Suraya Khan was an actual friend of mine that shared much of Suri's experience. She was a child bride of an arranged marriage, only to find out that her husband was gay, meaning she would never have children. She led an amazing, yet tragic life and died at a comparatively young age from congestive heart failure. Through Suraya's character, I have the privilege of exploring and challenging many of the normative uniforms that both Christians and Muslims place on the world. I'm sure many of both find my work reprehensible, but I, in turn, find many of their beliefs contradictory and capricious. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Christian, but that doesn't mean I agree with a lot of things that others believe, of either faith.

So that brings me to Robin. She allows me as a writer to explore the perspective of a young person who was abused, ran away, and was rescued. My wife and I have three abandoned girls that we have adopted, and a fourth that we keep close to us in case she needs help. By that admission you can tell that the subject of trafficking, abandonment, and abuse are very personal to us. It is through the relationship of Gary and Robin that I can express what it is like for a hero to completely fall in love with a child and have that child open up parts of his heart that nobody else could access.

In the next two books you will learn more about three other kids, Jesus, Candyce, and Angeline. Again, these stories are very personal to us, drawn from our lives, and you will soon learn just how personal.

Which Book Is My Favorite?

I was asked to discuss how many books I have written, and which is my favorite. The question of which is my favorite is easier to answer than how many I have written because I've published six books, five that I describe as being in the Gary Booker Series, and one that actually had a tie in but is not officially about the Booker team. I have almost finished a seventh book, have written parts of three others, have five more outlined, and have written eight short stories. Those may or may not ever be published as some of the subject matter might offend people, although the way the world is trending, who is to say. Besides, Shakespeare already wrote all of the stories, so my content is simply a revisitation of his themes.

Now, regarding which work is my favorite, that is easy. The book I am currently writing is my favorite, whichever book that might be at the time. The reason is simple, writing is completely absorbing and an act of profound serendipity. I can't speak for all authors, but when I write I never know where the story is going, not completely. Along the way inspiration jumps in and out, dragging my characters with it. That makes the writing process very exciting, and I am in a constant state of amazement at what is happening to the characters. I hope you feel the same sense of discovery when you read them, as I do while I am writing.

Thanks for reading
