What We Know About the Nintendo Switch 2 So Far
Speculation about the Nintendo Switch 2 has been circulating since 2022, but its existence was only officially confirmed in March 2024. During a shareholder meeting, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa indicated that the console’s announcement would follow a game-focused Nintendo Direct, which occurred in June of this year.
In a subsequent investor meeting, the company confirmed that the official announcement would take place during the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2025. The console is expected to launch in the next fiscal year.
Nintendo also revealed some key details about the new console:
Backward Compatibility: The Nintendo Switch 2 will support games from the current platform, allowing players to carry over their existing library.
Nintendo Switch Online: Current subscribers will see their memberships transition to the new console seamlessly. While no specific enhancements to the subscription plans have been announced, additional benefits are expected.
