When I said my goodbye was irreversible,
I lied to you in the shadows of a wounded heart,
I wanted to mask the last hope with oblivion,
a small fathom remained and, without realising it,
you took away the echo of my lost days.
The nights grew long, clothed in sighs,
and in the depths of my soul, a corner awoke.
Thus, the truth emerged, like a hidden river:
the goodbye I proclaimed was only a shell,
an illusion built to suffer no more.
And while time erased your image
the ember persisted, tenuous, resistant,
the spark of a ‘maybe’ at every dawn
reminded me that, even in the distance,
our love was a fire that never goes out completely.
