The win this week goes to my eldest for writing a letter to his mom on Mother’s Day and wishing her a happy birthday instead of a Happy Mother’s Day.
Oops.
At least he perfected the surprise factor, sitting on the couch all nonchalant, ignoring my wife and acting like he hadn’t prepared anything at all for the special day while knowing that sooner or later she would open his lunchbox (where his letter was hidden) and put food in it for him to eat while at a full day of soccer scrimmages.
You win some. You lose some.
the paddies fill with water
a patchwork countryside
on a cloudy day
we are one
the kids outside return home
quiet settles in
trees in the water
a freer time
by the riverside I pick
no-see-ums from my teeth
in the corner of my eye
the man who’s never there
kids sword fight on the corner
their umbrellas closed
That's a nice poem. It sounds like you had a nice Mother's Day there, and your eldest even wrote a letter to his mom. That's great!
Well, the letter to mom is pretty standard over here. Kids practice it starting in nursery school. As they get older though, you kind of have to twist their arm a little bit.
That’s why I found it so funny that he wrote happy birthday. I told him probably three days in a row, Sunday is Mother’s Day, so write your mom a nice letter. Maybe he did it just to be a wise guy.
Greetings @boxcarblue ,
What a lovely post....that first photograph is priceless.
Enjoyed reading the story of your son's private intrigue plan...Smiles!
Thank you for the poem,prose.
Kind Regards,

Thank you for stopping by again. I like that first picture too. My youngest loves playing with umbrellas. 😊
This is my favourite one. I don't know why, but the imagery goes well together.
Interesting. I wonder if you mean that you find them complimentary or just that they somehow work well together.
I think it's the idea that the solar panel really only has one function, but on a cloudy day, it's not fulfilling its functions, it's just there. It evokes a feeling similar to that which one feels when at home on a cloudy day.
"evening bike ride
by the riverside I pick
no-see-ums from my teeth"
Terrible ! ....but it made me laugh !
I enjoyed reading your words.
Thanks.
Have you ever had this experience? It’s the worst. Happily, you’re riding a long, talking with a friend and then … a whole mouth full of bugs.
Yuck!
No !... and Thank goodness ! 😄
It does sound terrible !

Your eldest is a champ ❤️ The first image reminded me of the asphalt patterns at Praça Dom Pedro IV also known as the Rossio Square in Lisbon, PT. Oh, and I'll go with haiku 7.
I’ll Google those now and take a look.
