Traveling
This past week, I traveled overseas by myself for the first time in a very long time. It gave me a chance to look at things and think about things slowly, without interruption. Spending time near lakes, I found myself staring off across the surface of the water many times, just staring at and watching the various reflections move and distort as the wind played with the surface of the water.

Overdue Conversations
We’ve all had these, those conversations with friends and family that have been years in the making, the moment when you’re finally alone and you can say whatever is on your mind, whatever has been weighing you down.
the moon fills the sky
I can’t get a word in
Food
This is one that needs no introduction outside of, perhaps, chicken divan. How many people know this dish? I wonder.
If you know what it is, or don’t know, leave me a comment below.

Family Issues
Family can be, well, awkward. Skeletons in the closet, elephants in the room, for whatever reason, they have a way of piling upon family histories, sometimes across generations.
Everyone, I suspect, will have or has moments in their lives when they are faced with making decisions about whether to be courageous enough to talk about these things or just let sleeping dogs lie.
our shadows almost touching
things left unsaid
Context
This is a poem that is based on an experience, but I’d rather not comment on it because I think allowing the reader to provide the context, or imagine the context, gives it strength and depth.

Window Views
The tiny things you see when sitting alone, and the feelings they can evoke, the meanings they can have. It’s interesting how we can create narratives from nothing. How we can find visual references in the world around us and apply them to ourselves and our current situations in ways that seem significant, but in reality, probably aren’t.

goodbye for now
Cheeky
Poetry, I think, is allowed to be trivial and humorous. There is a place for simple, basic observations of everyday objects like this one.
In today’s world, which has changed so much in the past twenty years, I wonder how many of you can relate to this poem, and the surprise of finding something like this in an airport restroom these days.

The moon always inspires and this haiku has excellent imagery.
Thanks. Sometimes I worry that I write too many poems about the moon, but it’s almost always in the sky at night, and it often stirs some kind of mysterious feeling in me.

Do you travel so much for a job or is it you just like to travel for fun. You have probably said somewhere along the time, but I have not seen it in the time I have been around your posts (or if I did I forgot ! )
I have heard of Chicken Divan along the way, but I have never eaten it that I know of. :)
I grew up in America and live in Japan now, so visiting family involves a trip around the world and back. It makes for long travels. This time, due to the tickets I could afford, it took 25 hours from door to door. In the past, I also took some long rambling adventures. 🤣
Ah ! Ok !
That is a dish I have never heard of before.
Because of family dynamics from my youth, I find that I tend to be a peacemaker, often allowing sleeping dogs to lie. I'm not proud of it as it can be cowardly, but also the easiest and most peaceful it seems. Much luck to you and be well.
It’s a casserole dish. My mom, like many others, I think, made a lot of casseroles when I was little. This one happened to be my favorite.
I often try not to stir the pot as well, but that’s been changing a little lately.
Green bean casseroles were a staple for me growing up.
Sometimes life does have a way of bringing about needed change in us.
I’ve had my share of green bean casseroles as well. 🤣
I liked it! Like I mentioned in the past it's great when you give the background behind the verses. Somethings are simple to understand others not so much. I understand travelling along with those family issues... thy are universal.
The talking reminds me of many women I've known over the years, where they do most of the talking and you're just along for the ride!
Like always great work. Hope the trip went well!
Yeah, you might lose a limb if you try to chip in with a few words. 🤣
The old shut-up and listen routine, much safer than diving into the shark...
Traveling and spending a bit of time alone has its benefits.
Love these experiences.
And therefore, I'll go with haiku #1.
Yes, alone time is important. I completely agree.
