The Ray

I have been locked up
For years so long that I can't recall
Darkness has been my friend
The walls of the prison my companion

I have been ripped off my freedom
Toils to do the bidding of theirs
For a crime less worse than that of the prisoner's lord
And for intentions more righteous than that of my jailer

But beyond I felt the ray
A symbol of hope and strength
For the first time, darkness gave way to light
A future is to be reborn

I felt my shackles loose
My eyes beam with the rays of light
A hope of freedom once again
To make my life meaningful once again
