Walking in the snow

photo_2025-01-13_15-17-26.jpg

Crunch of deep impacted snow
my nephew's feet a guiding beat
we walk around this world of white
season's peace my love
his laughter echoes pure delight
joy that shines this winter's morning
a future bright as the hills above
hopes that bloom in winter's light.

My heart beats fast, with love and care
my time to shelter, my love to share
but his thoughts, like the sky, shift fair to dark
doubts creep in, like muddy plots
will the paths he treads be smooth or steep
or lead him forward with brighter speed?

For in this winter's peaceful day
where outside noise is held at bay
love and support shine like guiding lights
a love that whispers, through the snow,
concerns aside, the future will grow.

Let cold winds blow, gives courage room
for how beautiful is the sun when it finally shines through
and so we walk and we talk some more
through blanket white, a peaceful shore.

Gorgeous!!!

I can hear these thoughts you had as you followed his footfallen beat. What bliss, to wander through nature with a wondrous wondering child! When the dark thoughts come in, I see a teenager. Is that him in the first photo? A young man?

Hi thanks for your lovely comment. It is indeed the young nephew in question in the photo. I'm glad you picked up that aspect of the poem leading through childhood to teenager to young adult.
