If I'm born again,
I want to come as a man.
If I come again,
I want to be a strong man.
I want to be the lord of the house,
To be served by all in the household,
To sit comfortably with the elders,
Waiting to be called upon to the table.
I want to be turned to—
To provide words of wisdom
For problems stubborn in the house.
It is fun to give orders, to be authoritative.
It is fun to be assertive,
To be the breadwinner of the home,
To be "He" who must be obeyed.
But do I really want to come again as a man?
I think I would rather come as a woman—
To be femininely beautiful and bright,
To be the gem of the house.
It is fun to feel wanted,
To be admired by many desiring males.
It is fun to bring forth life,
To nurture and to live again.
Life is sweet when reborn in spirit.
That is the dignity of being a woman.
From the female comes the male,
And through the female, life continues.
What has the male to offer posterity?
So, come again, and again, and again.
Let me be a woman.
