A soul so true but unsure
Can't tell the way
The world constantly making her abhor
Every single day
A mask worn to harbour
All the sweetness and care.
A soul so true but unsure
Whether to hate or to love
Many approach and aim to destroy
The others approach with pure intentions
Either way, there's a mask for everyone.
A soul so true but unsure
On good days, a 'smiling mask' appears
On bad days, a 'smiling mask' still appears
You can never tell her next moves
But rest assured, she's three steps ahead of you.

It's so true... It's always a smiling mask. That's what we show the rest of this world.
While ironic, it shows that whoever we show our true feeling is someone we rate very highly. Someone has to be very special for us to be able to open up to them and showed them our weakness.
The last line though. "Always 3 steps ahead"? I love that

This character trait reminds me of a person. But this is just my point of view. A narcissist who always intends to abandon ship sooner than their partner, friend, or employer anticipates.
When a narcissist decides it's time to act, being secretive and private allows them to stay three steps ahead of everyone else and catch them off guard.
The narcissist can plan their next "great adventure" in secrecy and privacy without anyone noticing. It enables the narcissist to prepare all of the cooperative parts for what will happen next.

But this one right here, isn't. She's just a soul trying to survive in a cruel world. A world where people do one thing but mean the opposite. Trying to protect her innocence and tenderness. Basically just trying to survive ✨
Yeah, the world makes us hide our sweetness for fear they might take advantage of us and hurt us.

I like your analogy with the mask because many get close for convenience so to speak and when they no longer need you, they take off the mask but as in everything there are exceptions not all people are like that in reality, thanks for sharing this piece ♥
