Trapped in Shadows

The plight of women is a sad paradox as it is a topic widely talked about but rarely actioned upon. Women are mistreated to such an extent that their lives lose all meaning. Some even lose all their will to live. Every single day one or the other news article highlights the atrocities committed against women, girls, females of all ages, races and religion. We glance through them, soak in the tragedy and move on. Sometimes, there is not much else we can do.

Apart from the violent crimes, women are subjected to these small discriminations that have woven themselves into our patriarchal society in such an intricate way, that most of the time these subtle biases go unnoticed. Women have become so used to them that the thought of taking a stand against it doesn't even cross their minds.

I know there is a lot of controversy surrounding feminism and it's adverse consequences for men, but personally, I find it hard to care. Women have gone through so much that it's completely unfair to diminish their torment to please the male gender. For once, something can be just about women without anyone dragging other stuff in it.

Women are under so much scrutiny everyday, their every move being judged, every word being frowned upon.

Through this poem, I do not intend to showcase women as victims. Because they are anything but that. They are the epitome of strength and resilience who have prevailed through centuries against numerous injustices. Women have adjusted themselves to fit in this world all too much. It's high time for the world to make their lives easier and give them the love they so rightly deserve.

This poem made me think of the women in Afghanistan and how their lives changed rather rapidly. The "pointless restrictions" come in many forms but they are more apparent in some places over others. Thanks for sharing and thanks for your contributions to the Blockchain Poets community.

Certainly. The lives of women differ vastly based on several factors. But the oppression remains a constant denominator. It's more focused in places like Afghanistan and a bit overlooked elsewhere.

This poem is beautifully tragic. It's written just so to where it sounds elegant as well as understandable.

You have a way with words.
