I fail to understand how chemical explosions can give more trust than a conventional chemical rocket.
At the other hand, nuclear pulse propulsion - propelling a spaceship through nuclear bombs - may make sense since we so far haven't found a way to "tame" the fusion process.
Indeed. The concept of lifting up a megasized rocket directly from earth could work out in the 50s or 60s, but not today. Anyway, if we are to scale out space travels, I think we need to think beyond chemical rockets (explosive or conventional).
