LA RESTINGA 🐟, Margarita Island, Venezuela // LA RESTINGA 🐟, Isla de Margarita, Venezuela [ENG-ESP]
Azul y verde es lo que más verás en éste post. De nuevo, la biodiversidad del planeta tierra es digna de admiración y prueba concluyente de un diseño perfecto. En la isla de Margarita se encuentra estas hectáreas de un ecosistema peculiar lleno de manglares, aguas quietas, animales singulares y hasta sitios románticos. Declarado Parque Nacional en la década de los 70, hoy les presento La Restinga. Todas las imágenes son mías, usando mi cámara compacta Samsung ST500. Pido disculpas por la falta de nitidez en algunas fotos, pero se deben a que se dispara a bordo de una lancha en movimiento, y algunas veces las cámaras compactas no son los suficientemente rápidas para algunas tomas, y quedan así.
La Restinga is on the edge of the Macanao peninsula. We arrive by road to a terminal of boats that provide the tour service. We were able to get there without any problems as it has good signs. It is also known as El Indio. A comfortable price is paid per passenger. Meanwhile, you can enjoy the simple exhibitions of local craftsmen who design and manufacture clothes with natural materials of the place.
La Restinga se encuentra al borde de la península de Macanao. Llegamos por carretera a un terminal de lanchas que prestan el servicio de tour. Pudimos llegar sin problemas en vista que cuenta con buenas señalizaciones. También es conocido como El Indio. Se paga un cómodo precio por pasajero. Mientras tanto, se puede disfrutar de las exposiciones sencillas de artesanos de la zona quienes diseñan y fabrican prendas con materiales naturales propios del lugar.
The boarding area is very tidy and clean. Great preamble for this pleasant and peaceful ride. The slow start from the dock allows you to calibrate your senses, as you move from the mainland to that peculiar rocking of the boats or "tapaitos". At a pleasant speed you move away from the shore and head towards the green vegetation that you can see in the distance.
La zona de abordaje es muy ordenada y limpia. Estupendo preámbulo para éste paseo agradable y pacífico. El lento arranque desde el muelle te permite calibrar los sentidos, ya que pasas de tierra firme a ése peculiar balanceo de los botes o "tapaitos". A una agradable velocidad te alejas de la orilla y te diriges a la verde vegetación que distingues a lo lejos.
But, suddenly...
Pero, de pronto...
The peñero increases the speed and with it the adrenaline, emotion, nerves and laughter. But it doesn't last long, since we are not so far from the mangroves. Quickly the vegetation begins to surround you and you admire the balanced ecosystem of the place. By the way, the day was ideal, clear and calm, which illuminated us to the fullest.
El peñero sube la velocidad y con ella la adrenalina, emoción, nervios y risas. Pero no dura mucho, ya que no estamos tan lejos de los manglares. Rápido empieza a rodearte la vegetación y admiras el equilibrado ecosistema del lugar. Por cierto, el día fue ideal, despejado y tranquilo, que nos iluminó a plenitud.
Soon you notice the peculiarity of this ecosystem. The trees extend their roots to the salt water, and keep them inside with part of their trunks. This is a mangrove tree, present in few places on the planet.
Pronto notas lo peculiar de éste ecosistema. Los árboles extienden sus raíces al agua salada, y las mantienen dentro con parte de sus troncos. Éste es un árbol mangle, presente en pocos lugares del planeta.
The tour continues through the dozens of channels in the park. The calm waters give you the sensation of sailing on mirrors. Many places seem to be duplicated downwards. The dark color of the waters is due to existing plants on the bottom that feed the oysters. The depth is about five to six meters.
El paseo sigue por las decenas de canales del parque. Las aguas quietas te da la sensación de estar navegando sobre espejos. Muchos lugares perecen estar duplicados hacia abajo. El oscuro color de las aguas se debe a plantas existentes en el fondo que alimentan las ostras. La profundidad es de unos cinco a seis metros.
Speaking of the fauna, the people of Peñeros say that more than forty species of birds live in the place, some of them native and others migratory, among which are pelicans, herons, gulls and flamingos. Here are a couple of them.
Hablando de la fauna, dicen los peñeros que en el lugar conviven más de cuarenta especies de aves, unas originarias del lugar y otras migratorias, entre las que se encuentran pelícanos, garzas, gaviotas y flamencos. Aquí tienen un par de ellas.
There comes a time when you are totally lost. You don't know where you came in, where you're going, or what you'd have to do to get back. So you trust the boatman completely. They entertain you by detailing the peculiar names they give to the channels, tunnels and wide places called squares. Their romantic names originate, according to some, from the frequent couples who travel on their honeymoon to Margarita Island, and visit the place. Well, good times to sail breast to breast (if you didn't understand...).
Llega un momento que estás totalmente perdido. No sabes por donde entraste, para donde vas, ni qué tendrías que hacer para regresar. Así que confías plenamente en el lanchero. Ellos te entretienen detallando los peculiares nombres que le dan a los canales, túneles y amplios lugares llamados plazas. Sus románticos nombres se originan, según algunos, por las frecuentes parejas que viajan de luna de miel a la isla de margarita, y visitan al lugar. Bueno, momentos propicios para navegar pechuga a pechuga (si no entendiste...).
There you can see the oysters that grow in the place. We also find guacucos, pepitonas, sea horses and starfish. Coincidentally, we found one of the latter and for a brief moment we photographed it and returned it to its natural habitat.
Allí puedes ver las ostras que crecen en el lugar. También encontramos guacucos, pepitonas, caballitos de mar y estrellas de mar. Casualmente, encontramos una de estas últimas y por un breve instante la fotografiamos y devolvimos a su hábitat natural.
It is worth mentioning that in La Restinga National Park you can also do other types of healthy activities that connect you with nature, such as kayaking and bird and plant watching.
Cabe destacar que en el Parque Nacional La Restinga también puedes realizar otro tipo de actividades sanas y que te conectan con la naturaleza, como remo en kayak y observación de aves y plantas.
We were able to see many (and photograph few) schools of mullets. But you can also find others like robalo, mero, lebranche and pargo.
Pudimos ver muchos (y fotografiar pocos) cardúmenes de lisas. Pero también se encuentran otros como robalo, mero, lebranche y pargo.
At the end of the trip we could observe the mountains of Macanao, a view that was useful for some of the Bolivar bills.
Ya finalizando el paseo pudimos observar las montañas de Macanao, vista que sirvió para algunos de los billetes de Bolívares.
This image is one of the last ones. On the right we see the Antonio Reina Antoni Bridge, also called the Bridge over La Restinga. And on the left we see the dock where we left, indicating that the walk has come to an end.
Ésta imagen es una de las últimas. A la derecha vemos el Puente Antonio Reina Antoni, también llamado Puente sobre La Restinga. Y a la izquierda vemos el muelle donde partimos, indicando que el paseo ha llegado a su fin.

Amazing place, thank you for showing us around through your photos. It reminds me of Rio Lagartos Nature Reserve in Mexico, very similar ecosystem with a lot of wildlife.
