Today I'm traveling to the Luis Urquízar IPVCE in Las Tunas to present a book. That's why I wanted to show you part of this beautiful city and its rarities.
As you can see, Las Tunas is an inland provincial city with wide streets and many houses and few buildings.
Las Tunas province has a flat topography, no mountains, and is very dry. The relative humidity is usually quite low and temperatures are high.
Vegetation is abundant in urban areas, with low-growing, leafy trees.
For a province that is said to be semi-desert, Las Tunas is crisscrossed by dozens of streams like these, with low flow and small extension.
There are banana plantations like these in almost every yard. Many banana trees can be seen growing over the fences and walls. You almost believe in wild animals.
In the provincial capital, there are several museums and memorials like these. This particular museum is built in honor of the athletes who lost their lives in the attack on the plane carrying the national fencing team from Barbados.
As you can see, there is a gym for fencing students at the back of the museum. You cannot enter this museum to take photos, as it is not permitted.
In Las Tuna, there is a wide variety of houses. They mix colonial and turn-of-the-century styles with modern ones: one next to the other, without any distinction.
Multi-family buildings have few floors. At most, four floors, or something like this one.
We can also find unusual houses, like this one decorated like a medieval castle.
And in the end, it's an ordinary building, but with other details.
Nevertheless, it looks very nice.
In Cuba, pigeon breeding is very common among young people. In Las Tunas, pigeon racing is also widely practiced.
Just look up at the roofs and you'll see buildings like these, which are nothing more than pigeon huts and traps.
The province is known as the city of sculptures due to the large number of sculptors and ceramists who work here.
Throughout the municipality, there are more than 50 sculptures like these scattered throughout the city and listed as provincial heritage.
However, the province's iconic culture is this one called The Fountain of the Antilles, created by the great sculptor Rita Longa from Las Tunas. 
Here in the province, one of the most economical and popular means of transportation is these horse-drawn carriages. Bicycles are also very popular in Las Tunas.
Although, of course, these are track bikes.
And so, finally, after 2.5 kilometers of walking, I arrived at the Luis Urquiza IPVC. This school serves more than a thousand students and is where I held my book presentation, as part of the provincial Book Fair.

Hoy estoy de viaje hacia el IPVCE Luis Urquízar, en Las Tunas para realizar la presentación de un libro. Por eso quería mostrarles parte de esta hermosa ciudad y sus rarezas.
Como pueden ver las tunas es una ciudad de provincia interior con calles amplias y de muchas casas pocos edificios.
La provincia de Las Tunas es una provincia de con una topografía llana, no tiene montañas, es muy seca. Normalmente la humedad relativa es bastante baja y de altas temperaturas.
La vegetación es abundante en las zonas de la ciudad y con árboles no muy frondosos y de baja estatura.
Para hacer una provincia en la que se le dice que es semidesértica, Las Tunas está cruzada por decenas de riachuelos como estos, de poco caudal y escasa extensión.
En casi todos los patios hay platanales como estos. Por encima de las cercas y muros se pueden observar muchas matas de plátano. Casi crees en silvestres.
En el municipio cabecera de la provincia, se encuentran varios museos y memoriales como estos. Este museo en particular, se alza en honor a los deportistas que perdieron su vida en el atentado al avión que traía al equipo de esgrima nacional desde Barbados.
Como pueden ver al fondo del museos se encuentra instalado un gimnasio para los estudiantes de esgrima.
A este museo no puede entrar para la tomar fotos, pues no está permitido.
En las tunas hay una gran variedad de casas. Estas mezclan estilos coloniales, de principio de siglo con casas modernas: una al lado de la otra, sin distinción alguna.
Los edificios multifamiliares son de pocas plantas. Cuando más, de cuatro plantas o como este.
También podemos encontrar casas tan atípicas como esta casa decorada como un castillo medieval.
Y al final, es una construcción común y corriente, pero con otros detalles.
No obstante, se ve muy bien
En Cuba es muy habitual entre los jóvenes la cría de palomas. En Las Tunas la colombofilia también se practica muchísimo.
Solo vas a mirar para los techos y vemos construcciones como estas que no son más que casillas y trampas para palomas.
A la provincia se le conoce como la ciudad de las esculturas debido a la gran movimiento de escultores y ceramistas que trabajan aquí.
En todo el municipio hay más de 50 esculturas como estas diseminadas por toda la ciudad y catalogadas como patrimonio de la provincia.
Sin embargo las culturas icónicas de la provincia es esta llamada La fuente de las antillas, realizada por la gran escultora tunera Rita Longa.
Aquí en la provincia uno de los medios de transporte más económico y más populares son estos coches tirados por caballos. También las bicicletas son muy populares en Las Tunas.
Aunque, claro, estas son de ciclismo de pista.
Y así finalmente después de 2 km y medio de camino llegué al IPVC Luis Urquiza. En esta escuela estudian más de un millar de estudiantes y donde realicé mi presentación de libros, como parte de la Feria del Libro en la provincia.
