Isla de la Juventud is simply magnificent, unmatched.
I'm going to give you a little tour of some of the most attractive places in the center of Nueva Gerona. Just the center, since any place would be worth writing a complete post, full of photographs. In this one, I'm going to base the text on the images.
I'm so amazed and in love with Nueva Gerona that I'm thinking of moving there.
Well, let's start.
Finally, there are two ways to get there: by plane or by boat, so I chose the Catamaran. It's a 3-hour trip from Batabanó, but it was worth it.
Nueva Gerona was unofficially known as “Treasure Island” for many reasons:
For its landscapes, its flora and fauna, but, above all, for the enormous presence of pirates. So much so that on the island's boulevard, you can find remains of some of the ships used by some of these outlaws.
Cuba has always been predominantly Catholic. Each town was built around a park built next to a church. Nueva Gerona was no exception. But admire the beauty of the ground design and the architecture of the church and park.

You may be wondering where all this marble and granite comes from. Well, the answer is from these mountains you see here. (By the way, admire this sunrise)
Thanks to this, even the signs of the The street addresses are made of marble.
The floor of the boulevard, the benches and also the sculptures and ornaments of Gerona are made totally or partially of marble or granite. And, if that were not enough, they come in various colors.
Note that even some houses are clad with marble slabs.
On the walls and streets of Gerona we can find several very interesting and high-quality artistic institutions. Very suggestive. There are many, but I would like to share some with you.
Others Interesting facts about Nueva Gerona:
On the same street there are four specialized restaurants, just meters away:
One specialized in pork
Another in beef
Another in chicken
And finally, one specialized in Chinese food.
In the park every Sunday we can enjoy the Provincial Concert Band. It's wonderful.

This is a private house (there is a family living here) but at one time it was the headquarters of the first telegraph in the province. It even has a door.
Without a doubt, I am just scratching the surface. There is much more to see here in Nueva Gerona. I promise that in future posts I will show you more of this true treasure island.

La Isla de la Juventud es sencillamente magnífica, inigualable.
Les voy a dar un pequeño recorrido por algunos de los lugares más atractivos del centro de Nueva Gerona. Solo el centro, ya que cualquier sitio valdría para escribir un post completo, lleno de fotografías. Es que en este, voy a basarme en las imágenes para escribir el texto.
Así de maravillado, de enamorado de Nueva Gerona me he quedado, que tengo pensado en mudarme hacia allá.
Bueno, comenzamos.
Isla al fin, hay dos formas de llegar: en avión o en barco, así que elegí el Catamarán. Es un viaje de 3 horas desde Batabanó, pero valió la pena.
Nueva Gerona fue conocida extraoficialmente como “La isla del tesoro” por muchas razones:
Por sus paisajes, su flora y fauna, pero, sobre todo, por la enorme presencia de piratas. Tanto es que en el boulevard de la isla, se pueden encontrar restos de algunos de los navíos utilizados por algunos de estos forajidos.
Cuba siempre fue predominantemente católica. Cada pueblo fue erigido alrededor de un parque construido al costado de una iglesia. Nueva Gerona no fue la excepción. Pero admiren la belleza del diseño del suelo y la arquitectura de la iglesia y parque.
Quizás se pregunten de dónde sale tanto mármol y granito. Pues la respuesta es de estas montañas que ven aquí. (De paso admiren este amanecer)
Gracias a esto, es que hasta las señalizaciones de las direcciones de las calles, están hechas de mármol.
El suelo del boulevard, los bancos y también las esculturas y adornos de Gerona, están hechas total o parcialmente de mármol o de granito. Y, por si fuera poco, hay de varios colores.
Fíjense que hasta algunas casas están enchapadas con losas de mármol.
En las paredes y calles de Gerona podemos encontrar varias instituciones artísticas muy interesantes y de gran calidad. Muy sugerentes. Hay muchísimas, pero quisiera compartirles algunas.
Otros datos interesantes de Nueva Gerona:
En una misma calle hay cuatro restaurantes especializados, a solo metros de distancia:
Uno especilizado en Carne de Cerdo
Otro en carne de res
Otro en pollo
Y finalmente, uno especializado en comida china.
En el parque todos los domingos podemos disfrutar de la Banda de Concierto Provincial. Es una maravilla.
Para terminar el recorrido de hoy, les regalo esto:
Esta es una casa particular (hay una familia viviendo aquí) pero en una época fue la sede del primer telégrafo en la provincia. Tiene hasta la tarja.
Sin duda alguna, estoy raspando la superficie. Hay muchísimo más por ver aquí en Nueva Gerona. Les prometo que en próximos post les mostraré más de esta verdadera isla del tesoro.

Debo decir que he quedado fascinada, puedes creer que nunca había visto fotos de la Isla de la juventud? Pues créelo, mi papá cursó los años de servicio militar por allá y ahora que caigo nunca me ha contado nada de esos lares.
Estoy ansiosa por ver qué más tesoros tiene la Isla a tal punto que quieres mudarte, lo de mármol es fascinante, me encanta el granito y sus compuestos ya veo porque esos piratas desviaban su atención para allá.

Ay, Samantha, si supieras que no me fui porque mi mamá no quiso vender el apartamento. Daba para comprar 3 allá y vivir del dinero de la venta. En el grupo te cuento más @restaurador tiene muchas más fotos de allá, ya que vivió ahí y su familia es de allá.
Ay que bien, quiero montarme en el Catamarán, espero las publicaciones de Ian entonces. Convence a tu mamá dile que es por un bien mayor 😁

¡Tanto patrimonio! Parece una locación digna de ser set de grabación de Piratas del Caribe 😆. Otro lugar más que visitar para "conocer a Cuba primero y al extranjero después" 🤣.
AMAZING. I have to visit there 😁 I'm a huge fan of pirates, so much that I think I was a pirate myself in a previous life. The place is really nice but I would pay a huge amount of money for seeing it how it appeared in XVII or XVIII centuries, in the golden age of pirates 😍
