One thing I love about Seoul is how there are so many mountain parks. If you know the right ones, it's easily to imagine you aren't in the center of a 25 million person megacity.
Suseong Valley
About 1km west of the main palace, Gyeongbokgung, there is one of Seoul's best hidden gems.
Nestled in a deep valley on the slopes of Inwangsan Mountain, just past one of the oldest neighborhoods in Korea, is where you will find the entrance to Suseong Valley Park.
If you are used to walking about Seoul's river and lake parks, maybe Suseong Valley isn't for you. It involves a moderate slope and a bit of a climb. However, the good news is that it is wheelchair and stroller accessible - tiring, yet still fun for the whole family.
Perhaps the most notable feature of Suseong Valley is the deep narrow gorge running down the middle. There is a small little creek with steep cliffs and numerous waterfalls and rapids.
With it's lush vegetation providing ample shade and the valley providing natural cooling, this is the perfect location to cool off in the hot summer or have an afternoon picnic.
Infact, Suseong valley has been a favorite urban escape for hundreds of years and it is within the old city walls of Seoul which run along the top of Inwangsan Moutain. Being protected from tigers, bears and bandits, this area would have been reserved for the royalty and upper classes.
Although you cannot cross it today, there is still a natural rock bridge. I'm not sure when the stone was placed there as I'm too lazy to read these kinds of signs and much prefer to make my own narritive.
Everytime I visit here, I end up taking a different way up the mountain. There are no large apartment buildings in this part of the city and every house and building is unique. Even the kitties seem to like it.
Heading back down to the subway station after a busy day (I took these photos in summer 2020), I felt exhausted after a long day. I was much to tired to visit the shops and cafes. It was time to head back home.
I didn't get out of the house much in 2021 because the covid situation was a lot worse and my wife was pregant all summer. Fortunately with omnicron now peaking and my wife no longer pregnant as of yesterday, I guess this summer will be great, maybe I'll bring my son, too (I'll write about him later).
This indeed looks like something from the countryside. Based on the photos alone, I certainly would not say that it is in a 25 million person megacity.
By the way, I am from Hungary, where nowadays the population is a little bit less than 10 million, so the population in that city is approximately two and a half times larger than the population in my whole country.
Have a nice day. All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.
I didn't realize Hungary only had 10 million people. i guess I always think Buapest is bigger than it really is.
I'm originally from Toronto, Canada. It's the largest city in Canada and Seoul makes it look and feel like a small town.
Escape into nature when living in large cities, this really looks amazing to explore!
Congratulations on the arrival of your son, he has a very unique birth date 22-02-2022 wishing yourself and your wife a wonderful future enjoying your little one!
@tipu curate

Too interesting...🥂 Congrats
Thank you. I'm very happy these days.
I am waiting to see the new baby in your arm...🤗
Hope you wife feels better soon, also C-section after hours in labour, then told only way we both would have made it. What a time and date, you will have a lot on your hands in the next few months, enjoy!
Fortunate hers was scheduled. Some poor guy has been waiting nearly 24 hours now. I can't imagine how his wife is feeling.
That helps being mentally prepared, my second was scheduled delivery 😄 enjoy your little boy.
