In the middle of our honeymoon adventures, we found ourselves at the charming Bietjie Plaas which translates to Little farm. It was a lovely self catering accommodation with only four rooms available, making it a lovely intimate little getaway.

Nestled among rolling fields and open skies, it was a place where time seemed to slow down, allowing us to soak in the simple beauty of farm life.
Our room was beyond perfect, a kitchen stocked with all the utensils you need to cook. We had a fabulous gas shower and the cosiest bed. It had everything you need for a self-catered weekend away!

It didn't feel like a particularly large piece of land until one evening we went for a stroll as the sun began to set and then I realised just how big the "little" farm actually was. Nestled in the back I found a beehive and had my husband begging me not to go too close as I nonchalantly waltzed up for a photo.

My favourite part of every evening was watching the bokkies (buck) food arrive in style - it was driven up to their feeding "Bin" in a buzzing red tractor, as it bounced up to where the food was dropped off, the bokkies would excitedly get up and follow along and then gather around the food for their evening feast. We would then spend our evenings as the sun set watching them munch away at the grass and hay.
The golden glow from the setting sun that hit the farm every night created the perfect atmosphere for gorgeous golden photos...

I love the different types of trees and plants so much, ah nature is just so lovely to be immersed in! I don’t know if one can experience true peace and pure happiness without spending some time in nature and enjoying the simplicity of it. There’s something about fresh air, open spaces, and the gentle rhythm of farm life that soothes the soul, its like a factory reset but for humans.

If you need a weekend to completely disconnect from city life without going too far out of the city, this is the place to be. I cannot explain how truly peaceful and lovely it was here!
We spent our time enjoying tea and cookies on the stoep, watching the animals munch away and doze off in the warm South African sun. The quiet moments were so special—just sitting there, sipping tea, feeling the sun on our faces, and appreciating the serenity around us. We also enjoyed sweet, romantic walks among the animals and trees, taking in the beauty of the landscape and the gentle hum of life on the farm.
It was the perfect weekend escape—a peaceful pause in the middle of our honeymoon, filled with simple joys, fresh air, and plenty of photo-worthy moments.
Would we go back? Absolutely. There’s something truly magical about this Bietjie Plaas, even if just for a weekend. No rush, no noise, just us and nature... What more do you need?
