On the seventeenth August twenty nineteen at the fresh age of twenty one, for the first time in my life, I flew by myself... down to Cape Town to meet my big brother and sister-in-law for a little holiday getaway.
Straight from the airport we ventured off to the incredible Fairview Wine and Cheese Vineyards for a wine and cheese tasting!
Being someone who does not enjoy alcohol I opted for the "kiddies" option and did just a cheese tasting, this came with the most delicious homemade lemonade, I really think I got the luck of the draw there, my lemonade was amazing! At the end of the tasting I did get a complimentary glass of dessert wine... that was really good to be honest.
Along with the tasting was the most decadent cheese, a combination of goat and cows milk cheese. If you are like me and are a cheese-lover, you most definitely have to go to a tasting because, wow... such good cheese. (Also, I was told the wine was pretty great as well, as my brother did end up buying a couple bottles)
After our successful tasting we went to visit the goats, by far my favourite part of the day. Just look at those luscious golden curls!
They were the sweetest, friendliest goats, I didn't get my hands too close, just in case they thought my fingers were a tasty snack... when I was younger I was feeding a donkey at a petting zoo and turned to get some more food when the darn donkey bit me under my arm... so I am pretty cautious around animals like this with scary teeth.
Besides all that they were still so much fun to take photos of, they really are quite cool animals, they didn't smell great but I can't get over those gorgeous curls and beautiful eyes!
We also ran into a few squirrels running in and out the bushes around the tasting room and trying to steal food from the restaurant.
How epic is this goat tower? I could stand there for hours and watch these goats waltz up the tower and pop out of their little windows!
The day we went there were quite a few families enjoying the goats and cheese, I think it is such an awesome idea for a wine vineyard to have a "kiddies" tasting menu, not only for the kiddies that are not allowed to drink the wine but also for those who don't enjoy drinking wine... I felt so included and honestly enjoyed the tasting experience so much, nibbling on my cheese platter and enjoying my lemonade!
So whether you enjoy wine or don't or need to bring your kids along to date night, I suggest trying Fairview, it was so much fun and we came home with a bunch of breads and cheeses from the bakery.
A perfect outing for a beautiful day!

You don't have to scare goat, Goat don't bite unnecessarily. I don't like coming close to them because of the offensive odour.
the smell is not as horrible as chicken and pigs
Ah well that is really good news, I am glad they don't bite but you're right, they do have quite a smell!!
Thank you for sharing a wonderful journey
