Hello everyone :)
I hope you are doing well.
Today i'm going to take you to visit a place called Castro de Monte Mozinho.
Believe it or not, we discovered this place through an episode of a Portuguese soap opera that our girl found really funny. As we like her to learn about our country and its history, we thought it would be a different but fun way to teach her something and find out if she associated this place with what she saw on television.
As soon as we arrived the sentence was:
-"Are we going to see rocks again?"
-"Yes we will, but you've seen these before. It remains to be seen if you can guess where... Do you think you can?"
Monte de Castro Mozinho or Cidade Morta as it is also known, is located in the parish of Oldrões and is one of the greatest archaeological treasures of the Iberian Peninsula, having been strategically built on the top of a hill.
As we started the route we found an information station and took the opportunity to show him a leaflet with an aerial image of the place and it was instantaneous: "I KNOW IT!!! We're at the site of the soap opera! Is anyone here?" .
We explained that that day the actors she saw in the soap opera weren't there, but that it would be interesting to walk around and follow the same paths and learn a little more about the history of the place.
It's not a long route but it allows us to imagine the size of the houses that were built there and realize how small everything was. The entire place has identification signs so we can understand what type of ruins we are looking at.
Several studies have been developed over the years and it was possible to determine that the people who lived here were Roman and that they were founded in Year I AD.
It was estimated that the fort was fortified with three lines of walls and that the habitable area was 22 hectares.
During excavations, coins, ceramics, glass, agricultural instruments, weapons and even jewelry were found. All of this can be seen at the Penafiel Municipal Museum, the Ethnography and History Museum of Porto and the Anthropology Museum at the University of Porto.
Children alone already have a fertile imagination and it is a lighter form of learning when we are in these places and they can tell a story themselves, imagine the daily lives of our ancestors and share this knowledge with their friends at school.
Some photos of this place had already been shared in previous articles, but this time I chose to compile all the records accompanied by a detailed description.
That's all for today, I hope you like it

Value your time, because every fraction counts, and the price of anything is the amount of life you trade for it.
May the memories of the travels be eternalized in the photographs, and may the photographs transport us back to the travels ;)
