When I decided to explore the Alentejo plains with my drone, I knew that the experience in Arraiolos would be special, but the images captured exceeded all expectations. Arraiolos, a charming village located in the heart of Alentejo, is known for its famous carpets, a cultural heritage of Portugal recognized worldwide. Its cobbled streets, whitewashed houses with colorful stripes and the imposing castle on top of the hill make this place a true pearl of the Alentejo.

Quando decidi explorar as planícies alentejanas com o meu drone, sabia que a experiência em Arraiolos seria especial, mas as imagens capturadas superaram todas as expectativas. Arraiolos, uma vila encantadora situada no coração do Alentejo, é conhecida pelos seus famosos tapetes, um património cultural de Portugal reconhecido mundialmente. As suas ruas de calçada, as casas caiadas de branco com barras coloridas e o imponente castelo no alto da colina tornam este lugar uma verdadeira pérola alentejana.
My drone took off on a calm afternoon, and the first thing that struck me was the vastness of the landscape. The plains of Arraiolos stretch as far as the eye can see, with the golden tones of the fields, characteristic of the region, and the green of the holm oaks and olive trees. Small farms dot the landscape like islands of tradition and history. It is a serene, almost timeless view that captures the essence of Alentejo.

O meu drone levantou voo numa tarde tranquila, e a primeira coisa que me impressionou foi a vastidão da paisagem. As planícies de Arraiolos estendem-se até onde a vista alcança, com tons dourados dos campos, característicos da região e o verde das azinheiras e oliveiras. As pequenas herdades pontuam a paisagem como ilhas de tradição e história. É uma vista serena, quase intemporal, que captura a essência do Alentejo.
The images highlight the eco-path that winds through the landscape, an old railway line now transformed into a perfect route for walking and cycling. Seeing it from the air, like a smooth line cutting through the vastness of the plains, is a spectacle in itself. Cyclists and walkers become small moving dots, and the tranquility of the place is almost palpable in the images. The eco-path seems like an open invitation to explore the slow and charming pace of rural life, far from urban stress, and of course once there, I didn't miss the opportunity to travel along it from where I was staying to where my legs could take me, always doing calculations about the path that would have to be taken on the way back to base :P

Nas imagens, destaca-se a ecopista que serpenteia pela paisagem, uma antiga linha ferroviária agora transformada num percurso perfeito para caminhadas e passeios de bicicleta. Vê-la do ar, como uma linha suave a cortar a imensidão das planícies, é um espetáculo à parte. Os ciclistas e caminhantes tornam-se pequenos pontos em movimento, e a tranquilidade do local é quase palpável nas imagens. A ecopista parece um convite aberto para explorar o ritmo lento e encantador da vida rural, longe do stress urbano, e claro que uma vez ali, não perdi a oportunidade de a percorrer desde o ponto onde fiquei hospedado até onde as pernas me conseguiram levar, sempre a fazer contas ao caminho que teria de trilhar no regresso à base :P
I spent precious moments there, enjoying the serenity that Arraiolos offers. Walking along the railway or simply resting under the shade of a holm oak tree, I felt completely disconnected from the hustle and bustle of the big cities. Here, time seems to have a different rhythm. You can hear the chirping of birds, the distant sound of a flock and the gentle wind that runs across the plains. It's the perfect retreat for those who need a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Passei momentos preciosos ali, aproveitando a serenidade que Arraiolos oferece. Ao caminhar pela ecopista ou simplesmente descansar sob a sombra de uma azinheira, senti-me completamente desconectado da azáfama das grandes cidades. Aqui, o tempo parece ter outro ritmo. Ouve-se o chilrear dos pássaros, o som distante de um rebanho e o vento suave que percorre as planícies. É o refúgio perfeito para quem precisa de uma pausa na correria do dia-a-dia.
In the evening, after exploring, I returned to the village to enjoy Alentejo cuisine, the simple but flavorful dishes, such as migas and lamb stew, accompanied by local wine, made the experience even more unforgettable. Arraiolos is not just a place to visit, it is a space to feel, a place where the body and mind find rest and peace.

À noite, depois de explorar, regressei à vila para saborear a gastronomia alentejana, os pratos simples, mas repletos de sabor, como as migas e o ensopado de borrego, acompanhados pelo vinho da região, tornaram a experiência ainda mais inesquecível. Arraiolos não é apenas um lugar para visitar, é um espaço para sentir, um local onde o corpo e a mente encontram descanso e paz.
The images captured by the drone are now a visual memory of one of the most relaxing days I have ever experienced, leaving any worries behind. They remind me that, in the heart of Alentejo, there is a piece of Portugal where time slows down and life is enjoyed with calm and gratitude.
