Hello and welcome to "Exploring Israel - Public Art" series. I enjoy finding and appreciating public art¹
Today I want to share with you public art I found while walking in my hometown Holon. It is located in a "Story Garden" Park in the southern part of the city.
While walking in the park, it is hard to miss this art scene. It is visible from almost all corners of the park. Seven, 6m hair braids with a spinning bow at the tip.
Up close there are two plaques explaining the scene.
It is called "The sign language of Noa", written by Nira Hariel and sculptured by Afi Hojsta.
The story is about a girl Noa that had trouble with days of the week. She couldn't tell wich day it is, until she had an idea while her mother braided her hair. She asked to braid her hair according to the weekday: one braid for Sunday ( Sunday is the first day of the week in Israel ), two braids for Monday and etc. This would be her sign.
There are seven braids total, each with a unique colourful bow and unique hair texture.
I was lucky, while visiting the park it was quite windy. The bows on the braids are shaped as scoops to catch the wind.
It was a very impressive spectacle when seven, two meter wide colorful bows, were spinning in the wind.

I enjoyed watching the bows spin. Such dynamic display brings art to life and enhances the experience, from the story to grass lawns of the Story Park.
Thank you for reading and your support!
