Today I invite you to the monastery Church in Einsideln. The history of the Benedictine Abbey of Einsiedeln dates back to St. Meinrad. Around the year 835, St. Meinrad, a monk from the island monastery of Reichenau in Lake Constance, built his chapel on the site of today's Chapel of Mercy. After many years, prosperity and downfall, great idealism and decline, light and shadow have changed over the centuries. Located in the town of Einsideln in Switzerland, it is one of the most important Baroque buildings north of the Alps and forms a unique unit together with the monastery. Abbot Nikolaus consecrated this church in 1735 and in 1984, Pope John Paul II honored the monastery with a visit. Now in December is the best time for a visit.
Piligrims visit to seek blessing, attend Mass and have here processions on major fest days not only in December.
It was the opening of the christmas market with many people, stalls, mulled wine, fine food, music and the opportunity to buy a nice gift.
The chapel of Mercy is situated within the nave of the Church and it is made from black marble.
The black Madona is a revered statue here in the Benedictine Abbey with great historical significance. The statue represents the virgin Mary holding Jesus and it is distinct due to its blackned features. It is belived to date back to the 15th century.
The interior is richly colorful decorated with frescoes, stucco work and gilded beautiful deteils.
The choir and main altar is stunning.
Thanks for your visit , have a wonderful weekend!
