Chao!
At the beginning of this year I made a trip to a great place, full of color and quite impressive landscapes, the incredible Atacama Desert, which with its magic left me trapped in endless images that will remain in my memory for the rest of my days, giant mountains, volcanoes, salt lakes where you float without knowing how to swim, snow in the highlands, a high variety of wildlife, all this and more I left this visit, but in addition to this should highlight several curiosities that before going I did not know:
- The Atacama Desert is as big as Tennessee or Ohio with approximately 41,000 km2.
- It is the driest non-polar place on planet earth. The annual rainfall is even less than one centimeter.
- The reason why it is the driest in the world is because it is between the Andes Mountains and the coastal mountain range of Chile, this causes rain shadow.
- The aridity of the Atacama is comparable to some places on Mars, in fact this desert has been used many times as a filming location for many movies.
- The Atacama Desert is really cold, yes, as you read, due to its high altitude and the Humboldt Current (during the night it is incredibly cold).
- It is considered the oldest desert on the planet.
- It is believed that humans lived in this desert since the Stone Age, so it is very likely that Atacama was the center of a very ancient civilization.
- Something magical happens during periods of rain, after the rain, thousands of flowers bloom and the desert looks like a sea of colors. A spectacle I would like to see.
- The Atacama Desert is considered one of the best tourist destinations in South America.
- The valleys such as the Moon Valley, the Rainbow Valley and the Death Valley are exciting to think that you are on another planet, the shapes of the stones and the colors are amazing.
- It has a field of Geysers, known as El Tatioa 4000 meters above sea level, this field is surrounded by volcanoes, it is simply amazing.
The truth is that if you have the opportunity to know this desert do it, it is majestic, it is not compared to anything, its landscapes are from another planet and its beauty is unique, I loved this trip, I hope you liked my curious data, now I leave you with some of my photos in this beautiful place. Bye!
