Hello everyone, this blog is about a memorable trek of Chandernahan valley, known for the origin of Pubber river. If you are in Shimla and looking for 3-5 days trekking and camping place, Chandernahan is the one you are looking for. This valley is located in Rohru Teshil of Shimla District in Himachal Pradesh.
I did this trek along with my friends in mid July of 2019. In this blog I will be sharing my journey and experience of this attractive trek. This blog will have the details of how trek was covered by me and my friends.
Day 1 : It was a cold morning in Rohru{ [//]:# (!pinmapple 31.201007 lat 77.750893 long d3scr) }, we took our bus for village Tangnu from where we have to start our trek. Along the ride we had our breakfast at Chirgaon, station where bus stopped for 20 minutes.
Above pic is a view of Janglik valley from Tangnu Village. At 12 noon we reached our starting point of our trek at Tangnu village. Although the road is till the Janglik village but the government bus rout is till Tangnu so we have to start our trek from Tangnu. We packed our things and started our trek for Dayara Thach where we planned to reach in evening.
Along with our trekking we witnessed the living culture of villagers in Janglik village and asked them about the important things and places to cover in trek.
We have to cross this bridge to go from village Tangnu to Janglik.
Along the way we listen the songs and took some refreshments at the point of rest.
At 5pm we reached our first day camping site at Dayara Thach. We took some rest and then started looking for best place for camp and bonfire. Thus we found the beautiful location for our camp.
After our camp setup we went to collect woods for bonfire and took some pictures of view.
We did witnessed the shepherds having about 400 to 500 goats and sheep in it. In Dayara there were about 5 shepherds who stay there for all summers. Dayara Thach is at the height of 11,000ft.
After all set up for the night we went for evening walk and took some pictures along the way.
It was night so we started our bonfire and start preparing for dinner.
We injoyed the bonfire and took our dinner which was fried rice with tea. After that we went to sleep for the upcoming big day.
Day 2 : After a cold night it was a good sunny day for trekking. We woke up at 7 and started packing our belongings for our next destination.
We planned for the day to reach at Litham, camp there and in evening going to explore the Buran ghati. With this plan we started our second day of our trekking.
We started the day trekking at 8 in the morning and reached Litham at 11am. Then we set up our camp and prepare brunch for the day and took some rest.
Now it was 2 of noon and time to carry forward our plan so we packed our things in tent, locked it and started trek for Buran ghati .
We went for 2 hour walk and took pictures of Buran valley and came back to Litham in evening. It was a great day and we really injoyed it. Now it time for dinner and some rest to get ready for next big day.
If you have time it would take a day trek to go to the Buran Pass and another day to go in Sangla Valley. But you would require proper trekking plus climbing gears for this trek.
It was the third day of trek and the weather was bright and sunny. We get refreshed and started planning for the day. So the plan was to explore the 7 lakes of Chandernahan.
So it was 7am in morning we started the 75 degree climb towards the beautiful waterfall of chandernahan. It took us an hour to reach the top of waterfall and see the mesmerizing view of chandernahan valley.
We took some rest after the climb and start walking towards the lakes of chandernahan.
After some distant walk we came to know that only two lakes were visible and other are covered with the glacier.
We managed to go up to the 5th lake as it was only climbable only till there. With proper trekking gears we could have gone more further. So we stopped at a best point for pictures and started clicking pics.
It was an amazing view from the elevation of 13,000ft. The sun was shining so bright that even we cant open our eyes due to reflection from snow.
It was 11 in noon, while we were taking picture the weather start getting worse so we decided to come back to the camping site.
On our way back we stopped at waterfall and took some pictures.
Above pic is taken from the top of waterfall, at the bottom of is the Litham camping site.
We reached at Litham at 12pm in afternoon so we plan to complete our trek by today only so we took our lunch and pack our things. We started down trek at 2pm and reached the Tangnu village at 6 pm. So our trek was completed of 3 full days.

I also love mountain climbing, especially snow-covered mountains like this. I wish I could set foot in places like this once, because my country rarely snows, and it's not that thick put. Your photos are truly amazing. I really like the picture of the sheep. They are so cute. Thank you for sharing.
Wow! that's a cool axe you got there! 😆
it's all covered in ice, do you need claws ice grip or just normal hiking shoes?
Its based on the time and month of the when you go for trek, like in summer you can go without hiking shoes but in winter yo absolutely need proper hiking gears.
must say, a beautiful place! I definitely want to visit it one day. seems like you guys had a lot of fun. keep sharing such fun places to trek and travel. :)
