I've searched widely, and between reading, gardening, meditation and a few other things, the thing that seems most likely to plunge us into the deepest contemplative calm is an ancient forest full of trees that has been left as it is, without being disturbed too much.
The forest of Réno-Valdieu not far from our home in the Perche region of France seems to be one of those ecosystems preserved from the productivist will of the human race, and it's in a veritable haven of peace that I invite you to follow me today.
Some of the trees in this forest were planted during the reign of Louis XIV, the Sun King, and have been growing undisturbed for almost 500 years. Some of them are as tall as a 5 or 6-storey Parisian building, and it's just breathtaking.
Most of them, like the ones above, are oaks, but there are also several other species, such as conifers, although I haven't managed to identify which ones in particular. Maybe you'll be able to tell me more !
Here's the sign that explains a little about the environment of this forest of more than 16km2, which is quite a vast playground to discover.
Here's one of those first giants, and it's handy that my companion has entered the field of my images, which gives you a scale of the impressive size of this specimen.
I think it must be a cedar, but I'm not at all sure, and your knowledge would be most welcome !
Not far from here, you can see these other very tall trees, and here again, I don't really know what species they might be... But that doesn't stop me from admiring these majestic creatures !
These are the roads and their perspectives that make up this crossroads in the very centre of the forest. This one was all the more useful to me and I'll quickly explain why...
This is my new and first car, which I bought the day after we moved house. I have to admit that getting to grips with it was a bit tricky at first, but by finding this place with almost no traffic, I was able to exercise enough to understand exactly how the pedals worked.
So, as well as contemplating these hundred-year-old trees, I was able to enjoy the perfect peace and quiet to practice without any other worries or distractions !
There are a few benches between these tall trees, and this one, bathed in sunshine, gave us a lot of pleasure just sitting there, doing nothing but looking around.
But let's get moving after inspecting the skeleton of this hut, which must date back to last year.
The light was beginning to fade, but that only made the landscape all the more striking, with the silhouettes of these titans playing in front of the clouds and the clear sky.
All sides of the road were lined with these magnificent and very graphic flowers. For these, I was able to check and they are Fireweed or "St Anthony's Laurel" - Chamaenerion angustifolium. Apparently, the rhizomes can be edible after cooking, but as always, I recommend you do your research before attempting anything !
Here we are in the other part of this zone of old trees, and these oaks look like the pillars or columns of an ancient, pagan temple celebrating the beauty of primordial Nature.
A little further on, we entered a younger forest planted with beech and oak trees and took the first road in front of us for a few hundred meters.
However, faced with the incessant mosquito bites, we quickly turned back, but this was only our first exploration of the area and we'll have plenty of time for more in the future !
And we'd also had our fill of discoveries for one afternoon :)
One last detail before I close this article: it seems that there are several religious buildings in and around the forest, and there are frequent pilgrimages... To be continued and I'll tell you more next time !
Well, that's all for today, and I hope you've enjoyed these great trees as much as I have, and I'd also like to thank you for taking the time to visit with us !
Take care and see you soon,
<3
<3
This is truly a beautiful forest. Thanks for sharing it with us through your photos.
I love the photos at the beginning with a bench right behind the tree 😁 Can you even sit there? It looks awfully close to the tree..
You could have spared you the stress with the pedal by getting a car with automatic gear 🙂 but congratulations anyway! You will love having a car!
The forest reminds me of the ones that we have in the Eastern part of Slovakia. I enjoy spending time there too!
Have a lovely day!
Yeah, of course, just with few branch near the head haha ! No, I'm kidding, it's maybe the angle of the picture that give this impression 😂
I know, but the only reason is that I want to be able to drive all types of vehicles, especially if I need to help a relative to get to hospital, for example. I'm already seduced hehe :)
I would love to have the occasion to visit one of those forests, in my imagination, they seem vast and untouched !
Thank you dear @delishtreats, have a lovely day as well ✌️

Merci :D
Thank you 😊 !
It's a paradise! That's how I can describe it. Spending time here admiring these trees, flowers and nature in general is a luxury that is also free. Connecting with the place where we come from and taking advantage of it to clear our minds.
The place reminds me of the ecological reserve here in Buenos Aires.
Thanks for sharing your experience in the forest with us @anttn have a great day 🙂🌳

This was a real pleasuring time ! You make my curious about this ecological reserve...
Don't hesitate to mention me if you make a review or a visit one time ;)
Thank you dear @dimascastillo90 ✌️
I certainly will @anttn friend :) should make a new visit to the ecological reserve.
Definitely !
Have a good day 😊
How beautiful this place is, because as you tell us, they have let their trees grow and some of them seem to be as tall as a building and that can be seen in the photo in which you appear next to them. A great place, beautiful, oxygen producing.

There is nothing that is more beautiful than nature
It is a very wonderful gift from God
I feel the same when I saw that picture. I also live remotely for the same reasons as you. beautiful surrounding my friend, congrats
And there we go! First view of the forest in the area of your new home. 🥰
And I have to say it really looks like a place of peace. I love those sites where nature is allowed to do what it's best with without disturbance by us humans. And especially without that thinking of "beauty = clean" (which for me is the absolute opposite by the way 🤣)
Thanks for taking us with you! And I'm looking forward to see more of this beautiful place in the future!
Take care dear @anttn
Haha ! I agree with you so much 😂 I noticed straight away that everyone there seems to be obsessed with gravel and brush cutters, and for me it's exactly the same! I've got life going in all directions and it's luxuriant :)
Thank you dear @aaskablackwolf ✌️ Have a lovely day ahead !
I wouldn't doubt if there are actually a lot of pilgrims visiting this place. What better way to praise the deity they worship than in a calm and mystique environment.
The few times I've been on a tree tour, there were always little signs attached to the trees that bore the botanical and common names of the trees. But those trees? They can easily intimidate a person😅
I completely agree with you, but for me at least, the real temple is clearly Nature !
Yes, it's true that they can also be seen as a bit intimidating haha 😂 I enjoy so much this type of botanical gardens and spots you're talking about btw :)
This is true. It's the nature around that has the soothing feeling.
I hope you're having a good day dear @anttn 😊
Yeah, I'm currently preparing for a small move for the week, packing things and watering plants hehe 😉
Thank you, I hope and wish you the same !
I'm doing okay too. Making a diy home decor 😊
Mmmh ! That's nice :)
I would be curious to see that 😂
Okey dokey. I just finished with it so you can check it out here😊🙃
Trees, they have their own stunning architecture, each its own ecosystem to dwellers like us in our world. But as importantly Trees are the lungs of the planet.
Those are the best living beings and creations of Nature to me ! And as you say, trees are certainly the best and simplest solution to keep our air clean :)
spot on @anttn
Loved this post wow the height of some of the trees
and indeed looks a good spot to get some practice in your car
Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)
Hey @tattoodjay, thank you for visiting !
Those were probably among the tallest that I've the occasion to see :)
I hope you're doing well ✌️
