Like going to the Beach... but in the Forest of the Elephant's Rock

in Worldmappinlast year

Hi dear Hivers, how was your weekend ? For my part, we went off to see a bit of the forest and breathe a little fresher, less heavy air. I hadn't brought my computer and it was the perfect opportunity to take a break, which explains why I haven't replied to some of you :)

So here we are in the Commanderie forest, a large pine-covered area not directly attached to the Fontainebleau forest, which I've already mentioned on several occasions.

IMG_3817.JPG

IMG_3818.JPG

However, we find the same type of soil and therefore similar vegetation, i.e. Scots pines growing on a mixture of sedimentary sandstone, so my title is not so misleading because the sea was there, even if it was several million years ago ^^!

IMG_3801.JPG

It's one of the tours we often take when we're out in the countryside, but every time we do, things change. Trees fall while others pierce the carpet of russet needles, and very often we find new huts or the evolution over time of old ones.

IMG_3820.JPG

On this one-morning adventure, we are accompanied by the family dachshund, who spends his time, driven by his hunting instincts, snooping in every nook and cranny of tree stumps and roots.

IMG_3828.JPG

IMG_3827.JPG

This is one of the rocks that gives its name to this part of the forest, and I'm sorry I didn't get a good enough look at it to realize its shape. You can find other images, but from the front, it really looks like an elephant playing with a ball. I wasn't able to take the image as I would have liked as there was a whole family in a troop just to the right of my frame and I wasn't going to ask them to leave so I could take my photo...

I sent this picture to @livinguktaiwan and she couldn't really see the elephant either ^^ !

IMG_3829.JPG

IMG_3833.JPG

IMG_3834.JPG

With the white sand on all the paths and tracks, it really feels like you're on the seaside - more specifically, it reminds me of landscapes in the Landes or the Mediterranean.

But the rocks also play their part in masking the horizon and, with a little imagination, you might think you've got the sea right behind you.

Because there are all these majestic rocks, a lot of people come here to climb, and even if I'm not a climber myself, it's easy to see why !

IMG_3835.JPG

IMG_3830.JPG

The walk continues, alternating between flatter sections and others with more relief, including some fine views of the higher ground.

IMG_3836.JPG

IMG_3840.JPG

IMG_3838.JPG

IMG_3839.JPG

One of the other things I really like about these rocks is the textures they adopt on the surface, like real reptile skins or... elephant leather !

IMG_3844.JPG

IMG_3841.JPG

Their shapes are not to be outdone, and there are many rocks with evocative silhouettes, although this one looks more like a bench sculpted by the wind and rain.

IMG_3851.JPG

IMG_3850.JPG

IMG_3849.JPG

This is one of those viewpoints, but unfortunately there's no sea or ocean on the horizon...

IMG_3854.JPG

IMG_3853.JPG

Pines are trees that I love above all for their shapes, which can be either completely straight or completely twisted, reminiscent of Japanese bonsai... but on a natural scale !

IMG_3857.JPG

IMG_3865.JPG

IMG_3867.JPG

IMG_3861.JPG

Here we are at the corner that reminded me most of the beach, with the little steps designed to lead down from the promontory and channel the flow of walkers so that the vegetation can grow around the sides.

IMG_3870.JPG

IMG_3872.JPG

IMG_3873.JPG

We're back on the flat, low-lying part of the forest. It's approaching midday and the light and heat are at their peak.

IMG_3877.JPG

IMG_3880.jpg

That's it for this little tour of the Elephant Rock forest !

IMG_3878.JPG

Let's finish with this curiosity that I spotted at the very end, a young pine tree that looked as if it had been tied on itself ! As if someone had done it deliberately...

I hope you've enjoyed this little stroll and thank you for your visit. Take care and have a great week !

All these images are mine and were taken with my phone - for once ^^

Salut chers Hivers, comment était votre weekend ?

Sort:

ok, I can sort of see the elephant on the official photos from the park, but it still takes quite a bit of imagination!!!! 😄

Yep, this way more "clear" on the official ones haha ^^

Have a good day dear 😘

What a cool forest! And I do see the elephant 😁 I actually saw it even before I read that there is an elephant playing a ball. My imagination has no limits 😂

Lovely that you took time without computer. It's important to do so from time to time. And for me the days feel longer when I'm offline 🙂

Have a lovely day!

Hi @delishtreats :)

And I do see the elephant

Yeahhh ! I'm almost relieved haha ! The first time I saw it directly too, all those rocks are quite inspiring too..

And I agree about this time perception, those days were more rich and seems indeed longer 😊

Thank you, I wish a very good one as well 🌻

@tipu curate

Awesome post and shots!

Thank you dear @claudio83 !

Very interesting place, it reminds me of my visit to Albania last year.
Thank you for sharing a wonderful place with us.

Again a country that I would love to discover :D

You're most welcome dear @triplug ✌️
I hope you're doing good.

I will be glad to see a post of yours from Albania soon, I wish you good luck, Albania is worth visiting, it has everything, mountains, sea and nice people (this is my opinion after my experience there).
Greetings!

Hi there @triplug ✌️

mountains, sea and nice people (this is my opinion after my experience there).

This sounds enchanting, and I'm sure those people must be way more kind that the basic stressful Parisian haha !

I cross my finger for having the occasion to go there one day, have a good weekend dear, take good care 🌻

Paris and the Parisians have something special that cannot be compared to anyone else, so far I have managed to visit both Paris and Albania both countries are so different in many ways.
Have a wonderful Sunday.

For sure those have something unique, but this can be a bit too unique at some point haha !

But even when travelling in some parts of France, it was already like I were aboard ^^ !

Thank you, have a good one too 😊

Yeah, it needs a bit of imagination haha ^^

Have a good day dear @jane1289 ✌️

What an amzing place! And I did see the elephant in your picture. Does that tell anything about myself?! 🤣

It's always nice to take a day or two off of all that devices in general. (computers, phones, etc.)
I was doing it by reading a book on Saturday as the weather was more on the rainy side last weekend in my area. Nevertheless a quite relaxing action.

And I did see the elephant in your picture. Does that tell anything about myself?! 🤣

This is serious, Doctor hahaha 😂 !

Yes, as I mentioned later in the comments, the hours and days seemed much longer! And then there were more activities... in the end one of the only things I missed was maybe here. And I to read a lot more than usually :D

May you have a good day ahead 🌻
