Venice is the obligatory destination of any tourist in the world. Each tourist tour operator inexorably makes a stop in the "lagoon city" to admire its canals.
But Venice is much more than that: it is art, it is Carnival, one of the most emblematic and important in all of Europe, it is culture in all its aspects.
A millenary culture begins practically with the AD era.
Venice thus appears in the Augustan administrative subdivision of Italy (6 AD).

Later the name went on to indicate the duchy of Venice and only later its capital: it is known that the center arose in a late period by bringing together the settlements that arose on its islands.
Today I am going to show you some images taken in 2015 when I was still living in Italy and I went to see the fantastic Venetian carnival (which I will tell you about in another post).
A city where everything goes by water: taxis, ambulances, the festivities of popular festivals, shopping. It turns out to see it, it is like a fantasy transplanted into reality.

Venecia es la meta obligada de cualquier turista del mundo. Cada tour operator de turismo inexorablemente hace una parada en la "ciudad laguna" para admirar sus canales.
Pero Venecia es mucho más que eso: es arte, es Carnaval uno de los más emblemáticos e importantes de todo Europa, es cultura en todos sus aspectos.
Una cultura milenaria arranca prácticamente con la era d.C.
Venecia aparece así en la subdivisión administrativa augusta de Italia (6 d.C.).
Posteriormente el nombre pasó a indicar el ducado de Venecia y solo más tarde su capital: se sabe que el centro surgió en un período tardío al reunir los asentamientos que surgieron en sus islas.
Hoy les voy a mostrar algunas imágenes tomadas en el año 2015 cuando residía todavía en Italia y fui a conocer el fantástico carnaval veneciano (del cuál les hablaré en otro post).
Una ciudad donde todo va por agua: los taxis, las ambulancias, los festejos de las fiestas populares, las compras. Resulta impresionantenante verlo, es como una fantasía trasplantada a la realidad.

1.- St Mark's Square. / Plaza de San Marcos -Piazza San Marco-
We started, how could it be otherwise, with the Plaza de San Marcos. It is the only square in the lake city and the main tourist destination of the city, a veritable "swarm" of tourists and photographers.
Piazza San Marco is one of the most important Italian monumental squares, recognized throughout the world for its beauty and architectural integrity.
Heart of the city of the lagoon and symbol of Venice, the monumental area of Piazza San Marco consists of three sectors; Main Square of San Marcos, Little Square of San Marcos and Square of Little Lions.
The square has always followed the life and customs of the city. The Ducal Palace was the seat of the government and the supreme magistrates of the republic, as well as a prison. The executions took place between the two columns of Marco and Teodoro, while the laws and decrees were announced from the Pietra del Bando, then published in the Porta della Carta.
Instead, the basilica was the center of state religious ceremonies thanks to the presence of the precious relics and its function as a ducal chapel, in a system in which the doge was the head of the Venetian church and reserved the right to name bishops.
The power and wealth of the church of San Marco were such that it had its own bishop, different from that of the city and the patriarch, the Primicerio, and that special magistrates, the Procurators of San Marco, administered its patrimony for life, residing in the Procuratie .

Comenzamos, como no podía ser de otra manera, con la Plaza de San Marcos. Es la única plaza de la ciudad lacustre y la principal meta turística de la ciudad, un verdadero "enjambre" de turistas y fotógrafos.
La Piazza San Marco es una de las plazas monumentales italianas más importantes, reconocida en todo el mundo por su belleza e integridad arquitectónica.
Corazón de la ciudad de la laguna y símbolo de Venecia, el área monumental de Piazza San Marco consta de tres sectores: Plaza principal de San Marcos, Placita de San Marcos y la Placita de los Leoncitos.
La plaza siempre ha seguido la vida y las costumbres de la ciudad. El Palacio Ducal era la sede del gobierno y los magistrados supremos de la república, así como una prisión. Las ejecuciones tuvieron lugar entre las dos columnas de Marco y Teodoro, mientras que las leyes y decretos se anunciaban desde la Pietra del Bando, luego se publicaban en la Porta della Carta.
En cambio, la basílica fue el centro de las ceremonias religiosas estatales gracias a la presencia de las preciosas reliquias y su función como capilla ducal, en un sistema en el que el dux era el jefe de la iglesia veneciana y se reservaba el derecho de nombrar obispos.

2.- St Mark's Basilica - Basilica di San Marco- / Basilica de San Marcos.

The Basilica of San Marco is one of the symbols of the city of Venice. It is one of the places to absolutely visit if you decide to try your luck on a trip in what is indeed one of the most beautiful and evocative cities in the world. An imposing structure, which gives its name to the square in which it is located. From its domes to decorations, the appearance of the Basilica is an indication of the eastern influences that Venice has undergone throughout the centuries.
The works for the construction of the Basilica of San Marco began in 828. The project was started by Doge Giustiniano Partecipazio. However, the current state is the result of two reconstructions. The first took place in 832, while the second in 978. The latter became necessary after the destruction of the church following a fire following a furious revolt.
Therefore, it is possible to date the Basilica that thousands of tourists admire every day in 1063. In fact, it is the result of the third and last reconstruction, commissioned by the Doge Domenico Contarini.
Behind the project is a clear source of inspiration, the Basilica of the Holy Apostles in Constantinople, which was destroyed during the Ottoman conquest. A splendid place, one of the most enchanted in Venice, as well as one of the most fragile. In fact, restorations continue from 1094 to today, to preserve its splendor.

La Basílica de San Marco es uno de los símbolos de la ciudad de Venecia. Es uno de los lugares para visitar absolutamente si decide probar suerte en un viaje en lo que es de hecho una de las ciudades más bellas y evocadoras del mundo. Una estructura imponente, que da nombre a la plaza en la que se encuentra. Desde sus cúpulas hasta las decoraciones, la apariencia de la Basílica es un indicio de las influencias orientales que ha sufrido Venecia a lo largo de los siglos.
Las obras para la construcción de la Basílica de San Marco comenzaron en 828. El proyecto fue iniciado por el Doge Giustiniano Partecipazio. Sin embargo, el estado actual es el resultado de dos reconstrucciones. El primero tuvo lugar en 832, mientras que el segundo en 978. Este último se hizo necesario después de la destrucción de la iglesia tras un incendio tras una furiosa revuelta.
Por lo tanto, es posible fechar la Basílica que miles de turistas admiran todos los días en 1063. De hecho, es el resultado de la tercera y última reconstrucción, encargada por el dux Domenico Contarini.

3.- The Doge's Palace - Palazzo Ducale. / Palacio Ducal
The Doge's Palace, previously also Dogal Palace as the seat of the Doge, one of the symbols of the city of Venice and a masterpiece of Venetian Gothic, is a building that rises in the monumental area of Piazza San Marco, in the district of San Marco, between the square of the same name and the quay of the Doge's Palace, adjacent to the Basilica of San Marco.
Distinguished by a style that, being inspired by Byzantine and Oriental architecture, well exemplifies the intensity of commercial and cultural relations between the Serenissima and other European states, its beauty is based on a cunning aesthetic and physical paradox, connected with the fact that the great mass of the main body is supported by seemingly slender inlaid colonnades.

El Palacio Ducal, anteriormente también Palacio Ducal como sede del Dogo -duque-, uno de los símbolos de la ciudad de Venecia y una obra maestra del gótico veneciano, es un edificio que se levanta en la zona monumental de Piazza San Marco, en el distrito de San Marco, entre el plaza del mismo nombre y el muelle del Palacio Ducal, adyacente a la basílica de San Marco.
Distinguido por un estilo que, inspirándose en la arquitectura bizantina y oriental, ejemplifica bien la intensidad de las relaciones comerciales y culturales entre la Serenísima y otros estados europeos, su belleza se basa en una astuta paradoja estética y física, conectado con el hecho de que la gran masa del cuerpo principal está sostenida por columnatas incrustadas aparentemente delgadas.

Venecia una ciudad con mucha historia y patrimonio artístico, donde se observa una impresionante arquitectura
Sin lugar a dudas. No es solo Venecia. En los alrededores está Mestre donde la fabricación del vidrio artístico es un verdadero arte. El Carnaval mismo es un espectáculo aparte.
Desgraciadamente los turistas ven solo las góndolas y los canales.
