I was inspired to explain how enjoyable my backpacker trip was when exploring Thailand. Me and my two friends last November 2022 enjoyed our short trip for 5 days 4 nights in Thailand. The Medan – Bangkok – Phuket – Andaman trip that we have been dreaming of. I really want to share stories, experiences and estimated costs for friends who also want to go on vacation to Thailand this year. I will tell you about my short experience, it looks like it will be fun this time, read until it's finished!
Flight From Kualanamo International Airport
It started when I went from Medan to Bangkok, using an Air Asia plane. Medan to the capital of Thailand (Bangkok) only takes 2 hours by plane. Usually, fares for one trip range from 70$ to 90$, usually not including travel insurance and baggage fees, Air Asia is always more economical than other planes.
During the trip, I was very excited because I had not been to Thailand for a long time since 2016. And also this is the first time I've boarded a plane after the pandemic which prevented me from traveling far.
Arrived Don Mueang International Airport - Bangkok
Arriving in the city of Bangkok, I headed for immigration check-in which was very busy. But as usual, they work conscientiously and very quickly. There was drama when I was at immigration checking in because I took some photos in that room which almost made me cancel my vacation, but thankfully the problem was solved and I didn't get any photos there.
So, before leaving Don Mueang airport, I bought a sim card to use while in Bangkok. For 1 sim card with unlimited for 7 days priced at 300 baht or 9 $. I chose true 5g which is the cheapest compared to other sim cards. You can find it right inside the airport before the exit towards the bus station.
After leaving the arrival terminal, I headed to the bus station and wanted to go to Chatuchak weekend market. I intended to leave on Saturday to stop at Chatuchak as well. This market cannot be abandoned because there are many interesting things in it. Besides that, I was already hungry and wanted to eat at a famous Muslim restaurant in Chatuchak.
Chatuchak Weekend Market
So, to go to the chatuchak weekend market, you can take the A2 bus and pay 30 bath or the equivalent of 1$, then you will arrive at the opposite side of the chatuchak bus station. Climbing the stairs using the flyover is highly recommended, then walking a little to the chatuchak weekend market. After that, we headed to the hotel which is on Khaosan road, because it was very jammed and it was almost night, we just took a taxi. Actually you can use a public bus, by crossing with the first flyover you take, then look for the bus at the department of land transport, right across from chatuchak park.
On the second day, I got ready to pack and leave for Suvarnabhumi airport, because we are going to Phuket today. Whoa, I'm very happy because this is my first time to Phuket and do the famous Andaman love trip.
We headed to Suvarnabhumi airport by taxi, because it was a bit late and in a hurry. Luckily the three of us could use Grab Taxi, with lots of promos, we ended up getting a very cheap price. For only 12$, we got to the airport very quickly. If you want to take the bus, you can wait at the khaosand road bus station and take the S1 bus, only 1.5$ will go straight to Suvarnabhumi airport.
Suvarnabhumi International Airport
Arriving at Suvarnabhumi airport, we immediately checked in tickets and boarded. This is also my first experience at Suvarnabhumi airport, I was very surprised because this airport is very big, I even got tired to walk to the gate. Before arriving at the gate, I found a food merchant paradise. So many small merchants and restaurants here. Starting from seven eleven, street food, royal project and many more. We also took the time to buy food that we can eat, because we did not have time for lunch.
After that, we headed to the gate and waited for the call to board the plane. It's very tight at Suvarnabhumi airport, I can't even bring a little water to quench my thirst. Our plane was also delayed within 1 hour, because the weather was also a little cloudy and it was raining. Finally we got into the plane and landed safely. By the way, we used Thai Vietjet Air, this plane was the cheapest when we booked, 30$ for one way.
Arrived HKT - Phuket international Airport
Arriving at Phuket airport, we immediately looked for a bus/taxi to go to Patong beach. Yes, we got a cheap hotel in patong beach because it's only for 1 night. We chose to take the minibus to go to patong beach. The minibus will take us to the front of the hotel. The service is also quite friendly, they drive very well. For a minibus fare, only 5.5$, in a comfortable minibus with air conditioning. The distance from Phuket airport to Patong beach is around 2 hours, so there's plenty of spare time for this.
Patong Beach - Bangla Night Market
We stayed at a small hotel near bangla street, the amazing thing is we found comfortable, clean and spacious hotel at a very cheap price. For 3 single beds, we only paid 20$, it was very comfortable and spacious, the bathroom was also very good with heating. We really liked the hotel we chose, got it by booking online at Traveloka. Don't forget to choose Patong Buri Resort to stay.
After putting away our suitcases, valuables and showering, we got ready to enjoy the night at Patong Beach. It's really exciting when we are looking for good food here. We found the street food very crowded, we even queued to get a table. I bought some food that I had never eaten before, they sell a lot of seafood, Thai food and drinks here. I think you shouldn't miss eating at the Bangla Night Market, because there are so many seafood menus here that you probably won't get anywhere else. Why should? Because the seafood here is very fresh, some are even alive to be eaten raw. The price is also relatively cheap compared to restaurants.
Finally morning came, my two friends and I got up early, we would be picked up by a minibus from open trip love Andaman at 08.00 am. We headed to the harbor and got free breakfast. Here we will be guided until 04.00 pm, going around to several islands including, Khai, Phipihi, and Maya Bay. I'm very excited about this. oh yes, the price for the Andaman open trip is priced at 57$, including breakfast and lunch. Free also for drinks and other compliments on board. We are guided by professional people, also taught to snorkel and swim.
During the Andaman trip, we were very happy because we met many people from various countries, something we will never forget for this holiday.
