Greetings, my dear fellow travelers. I hope you are well, healthy and well being.
I continue with my posts from my trip to Medellin, and this time I want to share with you my visit to Comuna 13. This neighborhood, which a few years ago was marked by violence and conflict, has become a symbol of resilience, art and culture. From the moment we arrived, I knew that this tour would be special, not only because of the attractiveness of the place, but also because of the history contained in each of its streets and murals.

Continuo con mis publicaciones del viaje a Medellín, y, en esta oportunidad quiero compartirles la visita a la Comuna 13. . Este barrio, que hace unos cuantos años estuvo marcado por la violencia y el conflicto, se ha transformado en un símbolo de resiliencia, arte y cultura. Desde el momento en que llegamos, supe que este recorrido sería especial, no solo por lo atractivo del lugar, sino por la historia que encierra cada una de sus calles y murales.
Comuna 13 is located in the west of the city and offers a breathtaking view of Medellín. From the top, you can see the vibrantly colored houses nestled in the mountains, while the city stretches into the horizon. Today, Comuna 13 is a place that attracts tourists from all over the world, eager to see its transformation.
One of the aspects that struck me most about Comuna 13 is its urban art. As we walked through its streets and climbed to the top of the neighborhood, we came across murals full of life. Some reflect the struggle and pain of the past, while others show the hope and rebirth of the community. There are many works by local artists who have turned the neighborhood into an open-air gallery.
La Comuna 13 está ubicada al occidente de la ciudad y ofrece una vista impresionante de Medellín. Desde lo alto, se pueden ver las casas de colores vibrantes acomodadas en las montañas, mientras la ciudad se extiende en el horizonte. En la actualidad, la Comuna 13 es un lugar que atrae turistas de todo el mundo, ansiosos por conocer su transformación.
Uno de los aspectos que más me llamó la atención de la Comuna 13 es su arte urbano. A medida que caminábamos por sus calles y subíamos hasta lo más alto del barrio, nos encontramos con murales llenos de vida. Algunos reflejan la lucha y el dolor del pasado, mientras que otros muestran la esperanza y el renacimiento de la comunidad. Se observan muchas obras de artistas locales que han convertido el barrio en una galería al aire libre.
The escalators were another striking aspect of the tour. These modern structures, which connect the higher sectors with the lower part of the neighborhood, have completely changed the lives of the inhabitants. As we rode up them, I could notice how the atmosphere was filled with music and joy. I also saw many street artists performing in different corners, offering break dance shows full of energy.
In addition to art and music, Comuna 13 is also a space for local entrepreneurs. Along the promenade, we found stalls where artisans offered handmade jewelry, T-shirts printed with unique designs and other tourist products.
Las escaleras mecánicas fueron otro aspecto sorprendente del recorrido. Estas estructuras modernas, que conectan los sectores más altos con la parte baja del barrio, han cambiado por completo la vida de los habitantes. Mientras subíamos en ellas, pude notar cómo el ambiente se llenaba de música y alegría. También vi muchos artistas callejeros que se presentaban en diferentes rincones, ofreciendo espectáculos de break dance llenos de energía.
Además del arte y la música, la Comuna 13 también es un espacio para los emprendedores locales. A lo largo del paseo, encontramos puestos de venta donde los artesanos ofrecían joyas hechas a mano, camisetas estampadas con diseños únicos y otros productos turísticos.
Once at the top, we looked for a place where we could rest and cool off from the intense heat. We sat next to a soft drink vendor and enjoyed a cold soda, while we contemplated the impressive view of the city. After a while, we decided to go down and say goodbye to this place where hope is manifested in every reconstructed space.
Comuna 13 is a tourist destination, but also a testimony of how a community can rise up, transform its reality and turn art and culture into a way of life.
Ya en la parte alta, buscamos un lugar donde pudiéramos descansar y refrescarnos del calor intenso. Nos sentamos junto a un vendedor de refrescos y disfrutamos de una gaseosa bien fría, mientras contemplábamos la impresionante vista de la ciudad. Luego, de un buen rato, decidimos bajar y despedirnos de este lugar donde la esperanza se manifiesta en cada espacio reconstruido.
La Comuna 13 es un destino turístico, pero también, un testimonio de cómo una comunidad puede levantarse, transformar su realidad y convertir el arte y la cultura en su modo de vida.
