I continue with my publications of the trip to Medellin, and, this time I want to share with you the visit to the Museo El Castillo, a spectacular place, full of stories and art. In this museum we were able to see collections of porcelain, glass and many antiques. Also, stained glass, beautiful gobelins, paintings and sculptures that adorned each room.
El Castillo Museum is located in the city of Medellin, in the neighborhood of El Poblado. It is inspired by French castles with its beautiful and spacious gardens, and its imposing architecture with towers and gothic windows. The castle was built in 1930 as a family residence. It was in 1971 when it opened its doors to share its history and art with everyone.

Continuo con mis publicaciones del viaje a Medellín, y, en esta oportunidad quiero compartirles la visita al Museo El Castillo, un lugar espectacular, lleno de historias y arte. En este museo pudimos observar colecciones de porcelana, cristal y muchas antigüedades. También, vitrales, hermosos gobelinos, pinturas y esculturas que adornaban cada salón.
El Museo El Castillo está ubicado en la ciudad de Medellín, en el barrio El Poblado. Está inspirado en los castillos franceses con sus hermosos y amplios jardines, y su imponente arquitectura con torres y ventanales góticos. El Castillo fue construido en 1930 como residencia familiar. Fue en el año 1971 cuando abrió sus puertas para compartir su historia y arte con todos.

Entrance tickets to the El Castillo Museum cost 22,000 pesos for those who want to walk through the gardens only. If you include the tour inside the museum, the cost is 27,000 pesos per person. My daughter and I decided to take the full tour, which lasts approximately 45 minutes inside the museum.
Before entering, we toured the gardens. We walked among fountains, rose bushes and sculptures that adorned the landscape, feeling the calm that emanated from that beautiful place. The flowers, in their splendor and the soft sound of the water in the fountains gave a touch of serenity to the landscape we enjoyed. As we walked along the paths, we imagined what it would be like to live in such a place, surrounded by so much beauty, art and nature.
Los boletos de entrada al Museo El Castillo cuestan 22.000 pesos para quienes quieran pasear solamente por los jardines. Si se incluye el tour dentro del museo, el costo es de 27.000 pesos por persona. Mi hija y yo decidimos hacer el recorrido completo, que tiene una duración aproximada de 45 minutos en el interior del museo.
Antes de entrar, recorrimos los jardines. Caminamos entre fuentes, rosales y esculturas que adornaban el paisaje, sintiendo la calma que emanaba de aquel hermoso lugar. Las flores, en su esplendor y el suave sonido del agua en las fuentes le daba un toque de serenidad al paisaje que disfrutábamos. Mientras avanzábamos por los senderos, imaginábamos cómo sería vivir en un lugar así, rodeadas de tanta belleza, arte y naturaleza.

At the beginning of the tour inside the castle, we were informed that taking pictures was not allowed, which allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the experience. With no cameras or distractions, we were able to fully concentrate on the details and stories the guide shared with us.
Each room we visited had its own charm and transported us to a different era. Antique furniture, works of art and stained glass windows told us about the history of the castle and those who lived there. The story of Don Diego Echavarría and his family was deeply moving. In the childhood room of the girl of the house still remains the collection of dolls that her father used to give her, while in another room, in her youth, the dress she wore at her 18th birthday party is preserved.
We continued our tour and reached the dining rooms with their elegant tableware and glittering chandeliers that made us imagine memorable dinners and meetings, full of conversations and laughter. There we saw collections of goblets, porcelain plates and a large collection of teaspoons that was donated to the museum. Then we went to the cozy library with its shelves full of books from different periods. In this beautiful space we also let our imagination fly. We looked out of the windows from which we could see the whole garden, rejoicing in such beauty.
Al iniciar el recorrido dentro del castillo, nos informaron que no estaba permitido tomar fotografías, lo cual nos permitió sumergirnos por completo en la experiencia. Sin cámaras ni distracciones, pudimos concentrarnos plenamente en los detalles y en las historias que el guía nos compartía.
Cada sala que visitamos tenía su propio encanto y nos transportaba a una época distinta. Muebles antiguos, obras de arte y vitrales nos hablaban de la historia del castillo y de quienes allí vivieron. La historia de don Diego Echavarría y su familia fue profundamente conmovedora. En la habitación de la infancia de la niña de la casa aún permanece la colección de muñecas que su padre le regalaba, mientras que en otra habitación, ya en su juventud, se conserva el vestido que lució en su fiesta de 18 años.
Seguimos el recorrido y llegamos a los comedores con sus elegantes vajillas y candelabros resplandecientes que nos hicieron imaginar cenas y encuentros memorables, llenos de conversaciones y risas. Allí vimos colecciones de copas, de platos de porcelana y una colección grande de cucharitas que fue donada al museo. Pasamos, luego a la acogedora biblioteca con sus estanterías llenas de libros de distintas épocas. En este hermoso espacio echamos a volar nuestra imaginación también. Nos asomábamos por las ventanas desde las que se veía todo el jardín, regocijándonos con tanta belleza.

As the tour progressed, we felt that each word of the guide transported us deeper into the lives of those who inhabited the castle. The experience was almost immersive, as if we were reliving moments from the past, imagining the family walking those same corridors, enjoying the views from the windows or relaxing in the gardens.
In some spaces we were allowed to take pictures without being able to see inside the museum. Thus, we took pictures from the windows overlooking the gardens and around the castle.
When we left, we stopped again in the gardens to contemplate the castle from the outside. The visit had been a journey through time, an encounter with history, art and the memory of a family that left its legacy in Medellín.
We took some beautiful pictures that we will treasure, and we left with our hearts full of gratitude for having had the opportunity to visit such a magical and meaningful place.
Mientras el recorrido avanzaba, sentíamos que cada palabra del guía nos transportaba más profundamente a la vida de quienes habitaron el castillo. La experiencia era casi inmersiva, como si estuviéramos reviviendo momentos del pasado, imaginando a la familia recorriendo aquellos mismos pasillos, disfrutando de las vistas desde los ventanales o descansando en los jardines.
En algunos espacios nos permitieron tomar fotografías sin que se pudiera ver el interior del museo. Así, nos tomamos fotos desde las ventanas con vista a los jardines y en los alrededores del castillo.
Al salir, nos detuvimos nuevamente en los jardines para contemplar el castillo desde el exterior. La visita había sido un viaje en el tiempo, un encuentro con la historia, el arte y la memoria de una familia que dejó su legado en Medellín.
Nos tomamos unas fotos hermosas que atesoraremos, y nos fuimos con el corazón lleno de gratitud por haber tenido la oportunidad de conocer un lugar tan mágico y lleno de significado.

El Castillo si que tiene una arquitectura bastante llamativa, los detalles en su estructura y ventanas son fascinantes, además de unos jardines para disfrutar de una conexión con la naturaleza.
A museum like this is more than just a collection of exhibits; it’s a journey through history, art, and creativity. Each piece tells a unique story, transporting visitors to different eras and cultures. Walking through its halls must feel like stepping into a treasure trove of knowledge and inspiration.

Un gran ejemplo de la fuerte influencia europea que ha habido siempre en Latinoamérica, es increíble que alguien haya diseñado este espacio para residir en una zona tropical ¡qué contraste más interesante!
A veces decepciona no poder hacer fotos en todo lo que visitamos, pero tienes mucha razón, el lado positivo es ser más consciente de lo que ves y disfrutar con mas atención los detalles y explicaciones que te presentan. Esto se nota mucho en tu relato, uno puede imaginarse fácilmente el recorrido interno con las descripciones que nos regalas aquí.
Como sugerencia, sería interesante intentar equilibrar la cantidad de selfies/retratos en comparación con las fotografías que ilustran el espacio visitado. Sabemos que es muy divertido hacernos fotos, pero recuerda que la comunidad está enfocada principalmente a los lugares que nos compartes.
