Climbing to the viewpoint of La Coracha - Gibralfaro Castle πŸ“· Malaga – Spain

in Worldmappin β€’ 17 days ago

A good way to face the winter cold and exercise at the same time, as well as admire paradise, is to climb one of the many trails that lead to the most beautiful viewpoints near Gibralfaro Castle.

I did this climb for the first time in 2018, in the middle of summer, when I arrived in Spain. At that time the heat was scorching and suffocating and I had no idea where the path was taking me. Today I can say that what I have seen is a marvel, a place to stay there and just look at beauty.

Today I want to transmit to you in the best possible way this experience that I have had climbing this path and the pleasant views that this route has given me. It has been exciting.

I have always loved castles and the ascent to the Gibralfaro Castle can be done by several paths, which I will do little by little. They are very steep paths and in some parts, if you don't wear the right shoes, it can be very slippery due to the steep slope.

But to get to the castle in question, you first have to pass through other intermediate places, no less important or beautiful. I will do these routes over several days because the climb is very steep.

The first section that I will walk today starts at the lower part of the Alcazaba Castle. This trail is located between the castle walls and the Jardines de la Puerta Oscura. This first part is not very steep but it also takes some effort to climb it.

The end of today's walk will be at or near the viewpoint of La Coracha. There are two impressive viewpoints, one is the one I have just mentioned and the other is the Mirador de Gibralfaro. After this you will find the castle of Gibralfaro at 132 metres above sea level.

The steep route has a zigzag form, with parts where you have to be very careful because of the elevation and the slippery ground, as it is made of stone.

The first views, the lower ones, show us important buildings of the city, such as the old university, the main town hall and the bank of Spain. This is on the right side of the path.

On the left side we can see the walls of the Alcazaba castle, strong and high as if looking up to the sky and guarding a great treasure. This first part of the path is beautiful, it shows us the fortress and at the same time, as we go up, we can see different levels of the city and even close to the emblematic buildings.

Between the path and the buildings of the city are the Jardines de la Puerta oscura, gardens that are at the foot of the Alcazaba Castle, and as I climbed I could see the vegetation, touch it and enjoy it almost at the same height as the great foliage, the flowers and the tops of the palm trees.

At a certain point you reach a place where this path joins another more modern one, made with stairs, to converge at a sign that announces where to go up and the stairs that follow it.

The more modern path will be the subject of another route later on, as it is entered from the other end of the site.

20241112_151938.jpg

20241112_151934.jpg

Once I climbed the stairs I found the views of the city and further away the Mediterranean Sea more and more beautiful and as I climbed higher and higher the panoramic views became much better and more paradisiacal.

At each level I tried to capture everything I saw around me, from the views of the city, the harbour, the remoteness of the sea as well as the slopes, the vegetation on them, the remains of ancient buildings, parts of the castle, and the zigzagging paths I could see.

I wanted to capture it all, so that the photographs could reflect all that my eyes were marvelling to see. As you can see I am very excited about this tour, because the history, the castles, the art and the feeling that so many things happened in these lands in ancient times is a source of great emotion for me. To walk where other people walked thousands of years ago. That's wonderful and you feel that energy when you are there.

20241112_152306.jpg

The views were becoming more and more spectacular and I wondered what it would be like to be at the top and although I was getting more and more tired and the climb was making it feel warmer even though it was almost winter, that motivation inspired me to keep going and going. Many people passed me, agitated by the difficulty of climbing certain sections of the route.

I could also see crossroads and signs with the other trails. For example, on the other side of the castle there is a forest park, called Parque forestal Gibralfaro, which I was also anxious to see.

20241112_152359.jpg

I still had to climb a bit more and with more effort, another new bend in the path that would lead me to new and much better views at a much higher altitude.

20241112_152723.jpg

20241112_153223.jpg

As you can see, the climb is very hot and it is advisable to take water with you because the slope is steep.

20241112_154137.jpg

Among the vegetation I could capture the city in the distance and the sea as well. Wonderful.

Everything around me was magical, today I relive it by telling you about my experience and it is like living it again intensely. Roads and more roads, all different and all beautiful. Many times I turned around to take a picture of the road left behind and the sun's rays flooded the atmosphere.

Almost reaching the viewpoint of La Coracha I finished today's walk, admiring the beauty of the place where I live and which I love. This path allows me to be in silence with nature, history and art and at the same time to look at the sky, the horizon and the whole city with its port.

Thank you very much for joining me today. I wish you a very good day. See you soon.

Hi, I love going up to a castle for its excellent view, nice post my lady.πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Thank you so much Cholito!!!πŸ˜ƒ

A castle with a great view from the top, climbing to the top looks exhausting, but the pictures you show are totally worth it.

It was exhausting, but it was worth it, next week I'll go again and follow the remaining stretch!πŸ˜ƒ

I hope you didn't go in sandals or flip-flops. And the Dark Gate Gardens couldn't be brighter... what a great walk my friend and so many beautiful views. Thank you for this.

No! I went with rubber shoes so as not to slip, because the stone there is terrible, a shoe that grips the ground well. Next week I'll be back on the trek! Thank you!πŸ˜ƒ

Wow!

Hello @avdesing
What beautiful places to visit your city has, and this one you have visited is charming
Beautiful photographs

Thank you so much @miprimerconcurso, thank you!πŸ˜ƒ
